Juggling a pair of Converse All-Star sneakers in hand, Ben kindly took time to wave to a group of admiring fans who gathered at the gate to catch a glimpse of their favourite politically active actor.
That Cambridge-raised star is set to join U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern to pack boxes at the Food Bank For The Rockies in Denver tomorrow as part of America’s Second Harvest “Send Hunger Packing†event. But first, he’s he’ll be anteing up with professional poker players Andy Bloch and Barry Greenstein for Poker at the Ballpark. It’s, of course, a charity poker event, with the proceeds benefiting The Paralyzed Veterans of America. The grand prize winner of the tournament will also be rather handsomely rewarded, with a seat at the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event up for the taking.
Ben will wrap up the week with performances from Chris Moore’s The People Speak at an ideas forum called “The History of Progressive Americaâ€.
Needless to say, it’s a jam-packed itinerary, but Colorado’s First Lady certainly has no problems with it. Regarding Ben’s celebrity status, she’s told People, “right or wrong, it gives us our tractionâ€. I think that’s a pretty accurate observation. Fame can be a bad thing, for sure, but when it’s used in the right way - to bring attention to the green movement, charitable causes, and so on - it can most definitely benefit everyone involved.”
