The recent issue of People magazine, featuring photos of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt with their newborn twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, is projected to sell 2.6 million copies on newsstands against average weekly newsstand sales of 1.5 million copies.
The issue is expected to become the biggest seller in seven years and the fourth largest seller in the 35 year history of the magazine.
In addition to earnings from the sale of 1.1 million additional copies, People is likely to rake in substantially higher ad revenues from increased traffic on its website. People.com, which averages 8.8 million unique visitors a month, received a record 6 million unique visitors within the first 24 hours of the photos going online.
People paid a whopping $14 million for rights to the photos.

That’s how many newsstand issues of People with the exclusive photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, have sold, according to sources close to the magazine, citing early sales estimates for the issue. People and Hello reportedly snatched up the exclusive baby photos for a wallet-busting $14 million, the cost split between the two in some manner. People scored the domestic rights for the images; Hello bought the international ones.
The issue is the biggest seller in seven years, and is the fourth highest newsstand seller in the magazine’s 35-year history, behind the Sept. 11 issue (4.1 million single copies), the issue covering Princess Diana’s death (3 million) and the one covering the death of John F. Kennedy Jr. (2.8 million). The June 19, 2006 issue with the exclusive baby pictures of Brad and Angelina’s first daughter, Shiloh, moved 2.2 million newsstand copies (perhaps the extra Pitt-Jolie baby provided a bigger draw this time).]

Totally agree with She Rides a Harley, these two are self-promoters to the core. Anonymous, there are many ways people can avoid stalking. How about living quietly & in remote places? Thanks. I forgot about HELLO and People splitting the deal. I think they did that with the Shiloh issue. I just thought about it, but I think out of the top sellers they listed, I have in a box somewhere the Princess Di and the 9/11, and maybe even the John John one. I’m surprised Jackie Kennedy Onassis didn’t have and issue, or if she did, it wasn’t a big seller.
