Days after it was revealed that Olympic organizers faked some of the opening fireworks, China has been caught again!
Lin Miaoke, that adorable little girl who sang Ode to the Motherland during the opening ceremony, was a big hit in her country. “Nine-year-old Lin Miaoke becomes instant star with patriotic song,” the headline said.
Only problem? The real voice behind the tiny, pigtailed girl at the National Stadium belonged to 7-year-old Yang Peiyi.
Officials at the last minute didn’t think she was cute enough, but her voice was judged the most beautiful.
Our thoughts? Is little Yang too unsightly for the world to see?

What a shameful thing to do to a child! Yang Peyi has a beautiful voice, and a precious little face. The other child was used. Her father said she was a “singing star.” NO, Yang is the singing star. The country of China is a disgrace…trying to give the world an “image” of their perfection. What they did to this child was unforgiveable.

this entire olympics is a contrived expo by the human rights violating chinese regime. it’s all manufactured (pun intended) to whitewash the crimes and hideous nature of their country and blind us westerners with flash, class and beauty. the olympic committee should have never selected the country, our athletes shouldn’t have gone, and our prez shouldn’t have topped it with a cherry.
the opening ceremony was fricking amazing. but the precision of the ‘light’ men, along with the grueling effort of the sideline cheerleading types (who looked like if they stopped dancing, they might be shot with their entire families) SCREAMED, commie work camp to me. it could have just as well been CGI-but it didn’t pass the smell test.
i also noticed 9b4 this revelation) that almost all the men women and children are freshfaced, attractive people. wow what a coincidence. maybe china isn’t so bad afterall

I think Yang is not ugly at all but Lin is certainly much cuter, my heart just went out to her upon seeing her in that little red dress. These things happen all the time esp. in Hollywood (i.e. Audrey Hepburn’s singing was dubbed by someone else in “My Fairlady”) as well as the rest of the world. Why be so harsh suddenly? Bcoz it’s China? People want to see beautiful perfect things. As long as they admit it & give credit to Yang, I think it’s perfectly ok (did they?) After all, it’s a ceremony, a show, not part of the competitions.
That is so sad……….so typical of China to put a false front, while really doing something inhuman behind the backs of the entire world. This is the same thing as human rights. They don’t care about reality. Seriously…China has been so bent on creating the ‘perfect’ Olympics that they have done things like this and taken shortcuts, that have all caught up with them and just made it all look dodgy and fake. This poor little girl will have to live with that for the rest of her life. I’m really enjoying the Olympics this year, mainly because of how awesome one of my friends is doing in the swimming…but the whole Beijing scene is a little fucked up. Too many problems, controversy and air pollution. Bad choice in my opinion.

I think the chinese government should let Yang sing at the closing ceremony. She has a beautiful voice, it is ironic that China wanted to put the best foot (Face) forward, and now the whole world can see the ruling Olympic people for what they really are.

I think the whole thing was wrong. Altho we (Americans) look down on China for doing that, but we do the same thing in this country too.We should not throw the first stone, b/c we (America) are guilty of doing this when it comes to our jobs, singers, models, music videos, and more.
Although this might be a “normal thing” in the cinema industry, at model contests, or even for a first impression while applying to a job, we are talking about children here, and I am very offended with regisseur Zhang Yimou indeed, because this “perfect image of powerful China” they want show the world is really becoming pathetic !

I am trying to get used to this kind of situation, dealing with the chinese it happens every day. As we r waiting to be choosen at a shelf. Professionals been pickep up regarding their good looks, or whatever they dream FOR THE INCOMING EVENT. This is how they “figure out”: They paint a figure in their minds, and then someone has to make it appear before their eyes!! The remedy is worse than the desease… Wait till 2010…
P.S. Little Yang peiyi will get it very well, no worries! She is chinese and very soon she shall understand that was not about been more or less, but fitting the moment and the figure.
