The role that was once rumoured to be going to Tom Cruise in the spy thriller Edwin A. Salt is reportedly being rewritten for Miss Jolie.
The actress/humantarian is close to a deal to play the title character, a CIA officer accused of being a Russian spy. Columbia Pictures has screenwriter Kurt Wimmer re-working the script for Angie, according to Variety.
Australian filmmaker Philip Noyce is set to direct.

It’s a breakthrough day for women everywhere. EW.com has learned that Sony Pictures is completely re-imagining its long-gestating spy vehicle Edwin A. Salt, which, until now, had Tom Cruise attached to star. But rather than focusing on a male CIA officer who’s accused of being a Russian sleeper spy, the studio has decided to make its lead a woman — Edwina, if you will. And not just any woman: the studio is negotiating with Angelina Jolie to star. Philip Noyce (The Quiet American) is still attached to direct. No word on whether the script, by Kurt Wimmer (The Thomas Crown Affair), requires a complete rewrite, or if they just have to change the pronouns.

Great news. A breakthrough for women as usually they would just replace a man with a man. I understand that Tom demanded $20 million and the studio said no way. Tom is now supposed to be in some comedy as a cook. How quickly celebdom changes.
Oh please, Jolie isn’t the first actress to have a male part re-written. Jodie Foster did it with Panic Room. Her role was originaly a male caracter. She later did the same with Flightplan. Sigourney Weaver’s caracter from the Alien movies was also a man. So Angelina isn’t the first actress to do this.
I don’t understand why she still gets roles when her movies flop.
Here last couple of movies haven’t in fact her last few movies made money and garnered critical acclaim for her performances and no ones putting a gun to your head making you watch her movies or read about her some of you really need to get over your hate for celebrities. Jeez. i don’t like her

OMG really, what world have you been residing in? Angie’s last three movies have made over $800 million worldwide. Any studio is going to try to cast her with that kind of success. Tom’s last movie sunk. She is definitely a moneymaker.
Even though I prefer her in serious movies like Gia, Girl, Interrupted , and a mighty heart I think she kicks ass in Action flicks. I would rather watch her than Tom and Will atm.

I am not sure this is a true action film. Sort of like a spy thriller more like Robert Redfore and michael Caine used to make like Days of the Condor.
Anonymous, you may not care for Brad but he is now a permanent part of Angelina’s
life, as he is the father of their SIX kids, and Angelina appears to love him with her
whole heart. That is reality.
