DID PETA GO TOO FAR? AGAIN?

On its website, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it wanted to run the ad in Manitoba’s Portage la Prairie Daily Graphic, which is distributed in the city near where a man stabbed a fellow passenger multiple times, then beheaded him and ate pieces of the body.
However, city editor Tara Seel said today the newspaper had no intention of running the ad, which uses imagery of a victim’s throat being cut, in reference to the slaughter of animals on factory farms.
PETA’s response? “While it isn’t every day that a human is violently attacked and eaten by another human, it’s worth noting that it is the norm for many people not to give any thought to the fact that restaurants are serving flesh that comes from innocents who were minding their own business before someone came after them with a knife.”
Just when you thought there couldn’t be anything more disgusting than a public beheading, PETA goes ahead and surprises us all.

its a horrible time to compare the man who was sluagthered ot an animal… especially with his parents having to deal with it…
they need to work on their timing and not use such extreme measure, it really puts a bad taste in peoples mouth the way PETA runs thier campaings sometimes..
they should use facts and not peoples gruesome murders to promote thier cause

I hate peta, they are animals, I don’t condone animal abusers but, human life is so much more important than an animal. I wish these people would stand up for starving children, abused children, something that will truly change the world than bitching that I ate a state or have a leather coat~!

Seriously, this has me pissed.
I actually just called Peta, 1-757-622-7382 and pressed 0 and left a complaint with their customer service dept. If enough people do this, maybe it will force them to remove this add.
There is a difference between trying to get your message across, and being hurtful and disrespectful to a family during mourning.
I strongly urge each and every one of you to call this number and voice your distaste with the ad!

Yeah, this is beyond what I ever though PETA would do, but I’m sure Pammy isn’t pissed about it.
This went over the line, and if there is some kind of legal action that the family can take, I pray and hope to God above, they can and do sue that ass off of PETA.

This is pretty repulsive. I’m a vegetarian but did not become one because of disgusting and offensive tactics by PETA. That causes no one to listen to you and changes no one’s minds. Just like when Guilani (sp) had cancer or something along those lines, PETA had an ad with his image saying milk does not do a body good. It was repulsive. It’s a shame because if they actually did things differently, maybe people would actually have taken them seriously all these years. Instead now if you say you’re a vegetarian, people assume you’re some wacko PETA person.

HA! Called ‘em.. thanks Shantelle! Being a vegetarian is a conscious choice one makes for themselves and should not be FORCED on people. Using adds like this is distasteful, disrespectful and completely bastardizes the cause. On top of the victim’s family’s sorrow and grief… comparing the average omnivorous person to this disgusting sick human being is an insult as well. They are WAY out of line in all respects.

Thank you both for calling! I am glad that my disgust in this ad is not a solo effort.
I also got in contact with a close friend of Tim’s through Facebook, and have informed her of this ad, and also posted it on a page that I have. Action WILL be taken in this matter, regardless. I am so shocked and just angered by this true lack of respect.
I say it again, the family and friends are greiving. They don’t need this shit out there!

As a Canadian, I am shocked and disgusted at PETA’s ad…We get it, animal cruelty is bad. But when you display the situation of what happened to Tim McLean in such a hard-edged manner, in such a graphic nature, it’s clearly done out of disrespect and obviously for shock value as well. They’re obviously taking advantage of what happend in Manitoba to use for their own campaign ad, and that is just wrong.

I am Canadian and this whole case of this bus thing makes me want to puke…I think it’s disgusting that PETA is trying to justify that eating meat is like what that man did to his victim. Just like kirsten I agree that they are just using this to their advantage. Gross and disgusting! What about this person’s family? I’m sure they like to see their son be exploited this way. PETA needs to grow up!

LAURIE SMITH - And it was not in Alberta, it was in a small town out of Winnipeg. The bus originally was coming from Edmonton to Winnipeg. And yes he did eat the flesh, as well as they found a plastic bag with the mouth and fingers etc or the victim. The people were herded off the bus once a guy saw the stabbing happening and they locked him in the bus. He was in there for over 4 hours until he finally jumped out the window and the police took him down. He stabbed the body 20-40 times.
This is disgusting that Peta would do this. I understand they don’t want us to eat meat but thats like saying Lions should survive on plants. It cannot happen. Our bodies were meant for meat. I do think humane conditions for the animals, and the slaughtering is necessary is what needs to be done, not everyone in the world turning began.

Our bodies weren’t actually meant for meat. Meat or decaying flesh actually sits and rots even more in your colon. Not to mention the pesticides and hormones in the meat you’re eating. It is pretty well known that people who do not eat meat are a lot healthier. I do not condone PETA, I mean they are beyond ridiculous. I agree with what about the Ethical Treatment of you Fellow Man??

I agree with Peta on a lot of things (cruelty to animals, those types of things) but sometimes they go tooooo far.
Like Greenpeace.
It’s too extreme. They go overboard to prove their point. They think we are stupid or something and only respond to horrifyingly shocking advertising.
Comparing an innocent man’s life to that of an animal? I feel for his family. They must be mortified and devastated, not to mention insulted. They have to deal with so much, and now this?
Peta….. you are disrespectful. You owe them an apology, and you need to remove this ad. Stat.

LAURIE SMITH - The story is not being embellished at all. Wouldn’t you rather the TRUTH gets out there rather then downplaying the honest facts. For your information, there were POLICE TAPES leaked that had the officer DESCRIBING him eating the flesh, plus a lot of news stories mentioned the cannibalism. Go the CBC and there is an article there on it. The body was taken in for examination, to a coroner. I live in Edmonton so I have been hearing about this a lot, from Canadian news sources. Where are you getting your ignorant information from? Furthermore my dad is in the RCMP and is friends with officers from the community he got taken into.
And why call Peta? Because if you don’t state your opinion, how is anybody going to know what you are thinking? Maybe if the world would have just turned a blind eye to the Nazi’s, because really what can oen person’s opinion do to stop the Jewish genocide?

I HATE PETA!!!! they are so stupid and extreme!!! their all like save the animals, frig people, but when it comes down to it im sure they would rather see an animal be killed before themselves.
