The impact that Oprah has had on Barack Obama’s campaign has been heavily debated. But two professors from the University of Maryland claim they have calculated it out to the exact number.
Using a complex numerical formula, economists Craig Garthwaite and Tim Moore, say that Oprah’s star power — based on book sales, TV ratings, voter turnout and other factors — has put 1 015 519 votes in the Obama column. That’s how many votes her endorsement brought Obama in the primaries.
In other words, Hillary Clinton can blame Oprah for losing the race by a nose.
And now we wait with baited breath for the general election….

I find Oprah’s comments completely offensive and I find the people that worship her like she is some kind of God completely brain washed. First of all there is no other way to take the comment that she now has only white people working for her other than what it is racist. Secondly those that worship Oprah because they think she does so much good have you really researched where and how she gets the things she gives away can you say free publicity. Third and last, I find those that feel Oprah is one of the regular people as she always so kindly puts it- did her season premier show not show you that she could not function in society with out those “white” people helping her do things such as pump gas. I think this whole country needs to re evaluate this whole Oprah thing, because I am really starting to think people are getting brainwashed by her. It truly scares me, that this is the type of person we are looking up to. What ever happened to doing something for someone because you want to not just so you can talk about it on your show.
I remember years ago when Oprah ’s shows were panel discussions on a certain topic. The topic one day was “Whites who will only date black women, and Blacks who will only date white women.” She was very agreeable to the white men who would only date blacks, but she came down like a lead balloon on the black men who would only date whites, and was very rude and judgmental with her comments. It’s too bad that Oprah needs to call it a “racial incident” when people don’t grovel at her feet. Yeah to Hermes in France — when the store is closed and you just show up (don’t call first to see if it’s ok) the store stays closed, according to Oprah, it was a racial incident. Another example of how money doesn’t buy class.

Now he says he’ll “change” his position on drilling for oil (of course, with the usual “if” so he can change back after the election). Everyone is in favor of developing alternative energy, but we’ll still need oil for the foreseeable future, and we WILL get it. The only question is “Where will we get it?” McCain wants us to develop our own sources and create American jobs and keep our money here, while Obama wants us to continue to buy it at a cost of $Hundreds of Billions per year from our “friends” in the Middle East and Venezuela who just “love” us to death. By the way, claims that we only have about 3% of the world’s proven reserves are woefully out of date. At $100 per barrel, we have more energy reserves than ALL of the Middle East combined. And Nancy Pelosi is telling vulnerable Democratic House members to tell their voters that they’re in favor of drilling, but she will just make sure that she prevents a vote on drilling - like she just did before going on vacation. As long as Pelosi is in charge, no meaningful change will occur. Harry Reid also says he’d be willing to have “some drilling”, but he too knows he and his buddy Pelosi can block any real drilling. If we had nominated Hillary (the real winner of the most votes in the primaries), I’m sure she’d have the guts to do the sensible thing, and she’d be leading McCain by 20% - 30%, not tied with him like Obama.

And I want to know why Harley is so obsessed with smelling other peoples’ asses. And I disagree that Oprah has lost credibility at all. She made over 350 million dollars last year, that is hardly the picture of someone slipping and she continues to be one of the most generous celebrities on the planet. Vote for whoever you want but allow Oprah and celebrities that you disagree with to have the same right to enthusiastically endorse the candidate of their choice. If Jon Voight, Toby Keith and a host of others are able to go all over the media bashing Obama then Oprah should be able to make her opinion known without being labeled a racist.
