She may not be interested about talking about Heath Ledger’s passing, but Mary-Kate Olsen opens up about fashion, dressing up and her style icons in the September issue of Elle UK.
MK on her style: “I love playing dress up. I get inspired by old films, weird things. It could just be the person sitting across from me or it could be a full Victorian costume. What I find odd though is that a weekly [magazine] will come out describing my outfit as a fashion disaster, while the fashion industry actually respects what I wear.”MK on her and her sister Ashley’s clothing lines, The Row and Elizabeth and James: “I think more of my energy goes in to Elizabeth and James, [The Row is] Ashley’s baby.”
MK on her style icons: “Edie Sedgwick and Brigitte Bardot.”
MK on what it takes to be a fashion designer: “I have so much more respect for fashion designers now because it’s hard work and never ending. It’s not a movie. You can’t wrap it and go start something else.”

She is a fashion designer? Oh yeah so am I!! Cant take her seriously.
I just don’t get it. I never will. This girl looks homeless and everyone gushes over it.
“eh, Im not a fan of these little girls either.
They are just so damn homley and they dress like shit
Was going to comment but then realized it would be a couple of minutes of my life I could never get back.
she wears fur and she says Brigitte Bardot is her style icon??? …… quite paradoxical since BB works with PETA and is for animals’ defense!!!!
Modern Icon? Umh no.
Fashion icon?! Keep trying little girl. You and your sister look like a pair of fat hobbits in clothes made fashion school rejects. By the way, the “fashion industry” that “respects” you, are the same designers selling you that garbage that you wear. Keep buying this crap from them…I’m sure it’s not cheap.
I love that cover…very cool. I would definately say she is a modern icon, because she’s not afraid to have her own style. Sometimes she does look a bit off, but look at Carrie Bradshaw’s style…it wasn’t always something that I would wear myself but you certainly couldn’t call it unoriginal.
i agree with stephi. it is true. why do designers love her. cos she has her own style. she bring chic to whatever she wear. regardless looking homeless as you may say it. don’t tell me wearing tshirt and jeans with heels make you fashionable or stylish? definitely not. its bringing your own personal flavour to whatever you wear. and make it you. so respect her people. she is something many can never be. AND yes she is a designer with other celebrities wearing her clothes from her label. hearts to the twins.
stfu
i adore MK
don’t hate because yoo ain’t
