Estelle Getty’s friends and family gathered at a private memorial service yesterday to mourn the loss of the late actress.
Attendees included her longtime assistant Richard and her sons, Carl and Barry Gettleman.
Said Golden Girls executive producer Tony Thomas: “We loved her dearly. She made the so-so jokes good, the good jokes great and the great jokes out of this world.”
Very noticeably absent from the tear-filled and unfortunate gathering? Estelle’s Golden Girls costars Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Betty White.
So much for being a friend!

That is so sad to hear that her supposed friends were not there….really….thank you for being a friend!!!
anybody know why? don’t jump to conclusions!!
What reason would they have for not being there??? That’s messed up.
There has to be a good reason for that. Or at least I’m hoping. If I were them I wouldn’t have missed it.
Bitches!!!
It seems they were close to her even when she was not in the spotlight. The ladies who played Dorothy and Blanche would give updates on her and say how she’s doing.
There must be a reason the three were not there.
I agree that there had to be some reason why the other Golden Girls weren’t there. All three of them have never said anything but wonderful things about Estelle. And they all know she was much loved by the public too.
Rue was at my school 2 yrs ago. (She was giving a speech). And I have to tell you she loved and respected Estelle. I don’t know why she and the other girls didn’t show up. But Rue had nothing but wonderful kind words to say about Estelle.
I am sure they wanted to go- but they are all raelly old too. They said their good byes a long time ago and in their way.
Let’s be fair
the voice-
ITA Rue said a couple of years ago Estelle stop taking visitors. She was getting really bad and she didn’t want to be remembered like that.
There are so many reasons they might not have been there. Stop jumping to conclusions. They visited her, they called her. Maybe they weren’t invited, maybe they couldn’t make it last minute. None of them are young anymore, it’s harder to travel if you’re not in great health.
And I agree with the voice, maybe they already said their goodbyes.
Those three women are all older themselves and maybe they just physically could not get there. I would hate to think that they had deliberately dissed her and it’s a real shame that three women that she spent so much time with could not be there to honor her memory.
That is so not true! I don’t know why they were there, but it wasn’t because of any animosity. In fact, every time I have seen any of them, they always mentioned that they had just either visited her, or her children had just given them a report, I wonder why it’s always easier to believe the worst in people, and it sucks we’re so cynical and negative that taking a gossip sites word is easy instead of further investigation. She was their friend, and close friend at that, and that’s the truth.
