New dad Matthew McConaughey details the labor and delivery of baby Levi in a way that sounds pure McConaughey. For starters, he tells Ok! that he and Camila Alves “danced, sweated, hummed, laughed and cried” through it all, adding proudly, “We were a real team.” Here’s what happened:
On July 5, Camila’s water broke. They wound up going to the hospital “59½ hours before the birth, but who’s counting,” he says. “Contractions started kicking in, and we found a great rhythm. We had a 14-hour session, her and I did. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it. We danced to it. I was DJing this native Brazilian music.”
Camila: “For 14 hours.”
Matthew: “We were jamming! She was sweating. No painkiller, let’s go. She just clicked into that gear that only a woman has at a time like this. We’d been up for 40-something hours, and we went from dead tired to a really steadfast, ‘Let’s handle this… let’s stay in the rhythm. Don’t let the contraction be more than you.’
Finally, says Matthew, “… the doctor said, “C-section. … He came out with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, so it was the right thing to do. Of course, if we’d known this was how it was going to go, we could have gotten it done in the first three hours. We laughed, but that was Mother Nature and the baby saying, “Thank goodness for Western medicine.”

I really doubt that SHE was “laughing” at mother nature after being in labor for that long. Man he sounds self-absorbed in this interview.

man my first thoughts from looking at this pic was, “Matthew does NOT look happy to be a dad.” I think he just wants to be free and loves living life selfishly by surfing and drinking. You can tell in his eyes that he’s not ready or just doesnt want to be a dad…either that or he’s stoned!!!

Cute little bubba!! But would it hurt Matthew to smile in this picture? Maybe he’s trying to be the serious dad. Did he really need to tell us that he was between her legs? I think he seems like a cool guy but if I had been in Camila’s position and he was drumming and stuff while I was trying to push a baby out, I would have punched him.

Oh good grief–another self-absorbed asshole fathers a child out of wedlock. Big fucking deal.
It’s disgusting how he co-opted HER birth experience and made it a “team effort.” Fuck that noise–he did jack shit to get that baby out. When a man shits a watermelon at the same time his wife pushes out the baby, THEN we can call it a team effort. Until then, he’s just a useless fucking bystander, completely unimportant to the job at hand. Fuck, even the janitor plays a more important role in the birth than the man.
