ESPN OMITS JUSTIN’S RACIST FLUB

Whoops!!! ESPN had to edit Justin Timberlake’s opening ESPY night monologue.
JT was reportedly teasing Boston Celtics basketball player Paul Pierce about his injured knee in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. In describing how Pierce quickly came back, Justin joked that Pierce was back on the court, “shucking and jiving.”
The comment, which was cut out of the broadcast that aired Sunday night, was met with silence from the crowd when the show taped on Wednesday.
For those not in the know, “shuckin’ and jivin’” is a slang term primarily used by African Americans referring to the speech and behavioural mechanisms adopted in the presence of authority figures. The term usually involves clever lies and impromptu storytelling, used to one-up an opponent or avoid punishment and originated in the era of slavery.

No one believes that Justin is racist. It just wasn’t a cool thing to say.
He was trying to be funny and it backfired.

Just shows you can’t take the Southerner out of a boy–no matter how many “shuckers and jivers” he works with–or pretends to be friends with.
July 22nd, 2008 at 12:06 pm
Yes, because ONLY Southerners are racist.
Brilliant, that.

“Shucking and Jiving” is the way a person walks and talks. it’s supposedly suppose to be the ultimate way of a portraying an African American, it mainly came from the 1970’s blacksploitation era films. It’s slang and a kink in the step while walking, an attitude. A very misrepresenting attitude that some white people tend to think all African Americans do.

Hey if Jesse gets away with it why not Justin, can you sa DOUBLE STANDARD.

OBAMA is the master of “shucking and jiving”.
Get used to your ghetto prez.

OMG.. here we go again.. for Christ’s sake. I am sure he didn’t mean it in a derogatory manner. Maybe something he heard along the way NOT in a negative condentation and he repeated it.. Why are people so focused on catching “whitey” slippin’ on being racist or not.. COME THE FUCK ON! Not EVERYTHING and EVERYONE are against minorities, specifically black peeps. I have been reading all of these threads for the past two weeks and it is very sad how one sided people are in general. Black people say that all whites are racist.. well that’s racist too. Not all whites are racists.. some may overcompensate by saying, “I have black friends” and then it’s racist to say that… well, you back a whole race of people into a corner by looking for ANY little thing to call RACIST and what do you THINK is going to happen??? Suddenly, whitey is sent scrambling for something ANYTHING to say to prove they are not racist. that’s not fair! The more people call racist, the more that race is set back.. no one alive today was a slave owner or a slave. Yes, it TERRIBLE what happened in those days, but America was not the only people with black slaves, in fact most of Africa (black people) had black slaves too.. It’s just not fair to lean on that crutch. Be good to eachother and be the best person you can be.. and if you don’t want to be called names, don’t be the stereotype! If someone calls you names after that, then they are IGNORANT and not worth your time anyway.. you got too much livin’ to do to focus on negative ignorant people.. but we are all, for the most part, NOT AGAINST A PARTICULAR RACE —
.
We all, as the HUMAN RACE.. have a hell of a lot more important things to be concerned with TOGETHER.. AS A WHOLE COMMUNITY! Focusing on why and how we are different only serves to defeat that purpose.

Our national media has jungle fever.

OMG, he’s not a racist. He didn’t use the nig*** word. Shucking and jiving is not a slur. Give it a rest and quit trying to stir up shit.

God, NOT AGAIN!
Arasto, why?
July 22nd, 2008 at 3:47 pm
That wasn’t the sharpest audience. Justin also joked that they would miss someone because he couldn’t seem to miss and again got a deadpan response from the audience. Granted it wasn’t the funniest comment (blame the writers for that one), but it at least deserved a chuckle. Instead, people sat there like they were frozen.

I’m African American and that is not what that term means to me or my relatives. Sometimes make issues out of nothing.

Comments like leela’s make me ashamed to post, but I’ll carry on somehow. Anyone with clear vision and not blinded by worshipping Justin can see the guy reveres black culture - so much so he wants to be accepted within that community. The black culture is a special one and I don’t blame him. But he’s not black. He may have a ton of black friends, producers, whatnot; however that doesn’t give him the right to speak publicly what he may hear or say privately. It doesn’t make him funny or cool or hip or “blacker.” It just makes him look dumb. Not a racist: Dumb. I don’t know why it’s so hard for people to understand there are some things black people can say amongst themselves that’s just not kosher outside that circle. It’s very simple - and respectful.

It seems to me that everyone is out looking for people to call a racist. Justin is certainly not racist and I doubt he thought that this would offend anyone. Chances are he didn’t even really know the full meaning behind the term, although maybe he should have done a little research beforehand. I hope he doesn’t cop any bad publicity for this because I think it would really hurt him to be labelled something he so clearly is not.

[...] Justin Timberlake had another slip up on tv. Apparently he made a “shucking and jiving” joke about Celtic Champ Paul Pierce that many black folks may not like. And unlike Nipplegate with Janet Jackson, his slip up will be omitted from the ESPY Awards show completely when it airs. According to Faded Youth: [...]

Ok…on the real folks need to LIGHTEN UP [no pun meant on that]
As much demeaning shizz blk folks say in music, on TV, in videos & towards one another WHY OH WHY are we acting “brand new” when other races pick up on the “speak”???? WHY should our race expect other races to “watch what they say” or “how they act” if we run around like a bunch of wild porch monkeys swinging around poles, taking pics azz first face last, hoing in movies & vids, sing about raping, robbing, looting/stealing,killing, fu*king, shucking, pimping, hoing, pole swinging, slinging, drinking & drugging. We did it to ourselves and on this one we all need to shut up and SIT DOWN.
WHY should the world respect OUR race if we have no respect for ourselves????
It really isn’t that serious, the gas prices is serious, the ecomony is serious getting Obama elected is serious but this hollyweird nonsense is NOT & once again I MUST reitterate WE DID THIS SHIZZ TO OURSELVES.

Dukes of Hazzard:
Luke: How are we gonna get past Roscoe ?
Bo: Lets pull the ole shuck and jive ?
Bo,Luke,Uncle Jessie,Daisy,Cooter : Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha
It was used every other week on the show ,never heard it edited once and never heard it edited on the reruns from nashville network once.Dukes of Hazzard was on after slavery right? So surely African Americans would tune in and be offended by the comment every other week ? Funny never heard one story on it either ?
