DOG’S DAY OUT

The late real estate tycoon Leona Helmsley didn’t just leave $12 million to her dog; she left some $5 billion to caring for all dogs!!

Her instructions, specified in a two-page “mission statement,” are that the entire trust, valued at $5 billion to $8 billion and amounting to virtually all her estate, be used for the care and welfare of dogs, according to two people who have seen the document and who described it on condition of anonymity.

So, what does that mean? Trustees will shovel bag’s full of cash to national groups like the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals which have programs dedicated to dogs.

Cuckoo….cuckoo….cuckoo!

What is so cuckoo about leaving one’s money to charity? I’d say it’s a noble thing to do. She loved animals so why shouldn’t she leave her fortune to groups that help them?

Oh I know who she is. So what? I think it’s good that she left her money to charity and the causes she cares about. It’s her money after all, she can’t take it with her.

I mean she may have been a nut but I don’t see anything wrong with what she did with HER money here.

Leona Mindy Rosenthal Helmsley (July 4, 1920 – August 20, 2007) was a billionaire New York City hotel operator and real estate investor. She was a flamboyant personality and had a reputation for tyrannical behavior that earned her the nickname “Queen of Mean”, that image of Helmsley was sealed when a former housekeeper testified that she had heard Helmsley say: “We don’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes.”, a saying that became notorious and identified with her for the rest of her life. She was later convicted of federal income tax evasion and other crimes in 1989 and served 19 months in prison (and two more months under house arrest), after receiving an initial sentence of 16 years. - -
i dont care people, she was a freaking nut.
alot of people are happy that she died anyway.
kinda funny how its okay to leave money to a dog, but screw your family.
she is in hell where she belongs.

‘only the little people pay taxes’…isn’t that her saying? typical lib. valuing dogs more than humans. another typical value for a lib.

wait, where are all the ‘death tax’ proponents?
if she was a good liberal, who trusted the govt more than anything else, why not give it to the IRS to distribute? oh yea, a hypocrite.

Adam, where are you getting this fucktarded notion that Leona Helmsley was a liberal? Did you just pull that one out of your ass for the sake of starting an argument?

Jesus Christ, The Queen of Mean was the furthest thing from a liberal possible. She was a dyed-in-the-wool Republican.

Get your fucking facts straight before you start spewing, Adam. Jesus Christ, there’s nothing wrong with having an opinion, but when it’s not fact-based, you’re just showing how stupid and valueless your opinion really is.

apparently the crazy bitch didn’t get along with the human species…seems quite fitting that she left her money to animals.

I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS HOW PEOPLE PUT ANIMALS FIRST. WHY DOESNT SHE LEAVE THE MONEY FOR PEOPLES CAUSE? LIKE POVERTY IN SOUTH AMERICA???

    July-2-2008 @ 2:07 pm

oh lordy! “typical liberal” mumbo-jumbo? whatever. she was crazy. she was rich. she gave her money to a good cause. leave it at that. what is funny is that she was a republican… those typical “liberal” republicans….they’ll get ya’ every time!

    idiot.

    she was a dem.
    sorry.
    i won’t call you names.
however, i’ll ask again to all you death tax lovers and rich people haters, WHY NOT LET THE IRS spread out her wealth if the gov’t is so wonderful?

    http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?st=NY&last=Helmsley&first=Leona

REPUBLICANS would NEVER say ‘only the little people pay taxes,’ instead they say, only the rich pays taxes.
    LIARS.

Hey, if you earn it you can spend it as you like. I like her a lot more now that she’s given her estate to animals. Maybe she wasn’t so awful after all. ^_^

I totally support her decision. If animals need help in this world (and they do - anyone see the recent puppy mill raid in TN from the HS?), it’s because we humans have been irresponsible by not spaying/ neutering and by rampant neglect or cruelty. Too many people bring these innocent animals into their lives to use and abuse. If some of this woman’s wealth can work to alleviate the suffering of a widespread number of animals I think that’s friggin’ awesome!
