Earlier today, the British soulstress was spotted struggling through soundcheck, but later failed to turn up for a photocall with the former South African leader and the rest of the artists on the bill for his special concert.
So, where was she? Visiting husband Blake Fielder-Civil in Pentonville Prison, where he is awaiting sentence for a slew of charges.
Meanwhile, the show’s finale is expected to be feature Queen, Wino and Jerry Dammers (of British ska legends the Specials) performing Free Nelson Mandela, a Dammers-penned song from 1984 that was quickly adopted as an anti-apartheid anthem at the time.

The past couple months she’s been on Letterman/Oprah/Ellen/Tyra/Kimmell/Conan/GMA & all the same type shows in every European country & Australia & the person questioning Nelson Mandelas importance - u are an ingnorant fool? Thank god the concert was held in Europe where people know about other cultures instead of in parochial dumb america - fucking idiots!

I do not understand how Amy Winehouse could be asked to perform! Obviously just for some publicity. Nelson Mandela is a role model, an inspiration and Amy is everything that is wrong in this world today. She is a druggie mess and the worst role model for children right now. Britney and Paris practically look like saints next to her. Putting someone like her up next to Nelson Mandela is just plain wrong.

Even I, a big Amy fan, wonder what she was doing performing at this particular event which was mostly a PC, liberal, black, love fest.
