Buzz has slowly been building in recent weeks suggesting Britney Spears may perform an encore to her trainwreck performance at the 2007 Video Music Awards this year.
Why would she do such a thing, you may ask? Both parties could benefit from the gig. While it could offer Britney the comeback performance she so desperately needs, MTV would rake in killer ratings whether or not she shines or crumbles. (Brit’s performance at the Vegas show last year was one of the most-talked about moments of 2007 and helped draw 7.1 million viewers.)
Adding fuel to the fiery gossip? In a phone interview with the AP today, Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, said: “Everyone deserves a second or third chance, right?”
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will air live on September 7 from L.A.

I definately think it’s too soon for Britney to be performing something as big as the MTV awards. Her earlier performances at this event really set a precedent for herself, they were fantastic. Think about the snake and the Madonna/Christina/Britney performance, if you watch them over there was just no faults in them that I could see. If she comes back to perform at these awards she needs to perform to the same level as she did then, otherwise it is just going to draw comparisons like the Gimme More performance did. I think wait at least another year until she has a hot new single to promote or something. Not yet.
