With just two days to go until Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebration concert, the stars stepped out to fete the former South African president during a fundraising dinner at London’s Hyde Park on Wednesday.
And, of course, no event having to do with Africa would be complete without its reigning queen, Oprah Winfrey.
She tells the Press Association: “What is so special is that you spend 27 years in prison, you come out and you do the thing that everyone thought was impossible to do, become president of the nation and change the way people feel about Africa, and then you get to live to celebrate 90. I just don’t know anybody who deserves this more or anybody who we should be gathered around literally at his feet to say thank you for all that he has given the world.”
Blending good will with a little shameless self-promotion, Hancock star Will Smith was in attendance with wife Jada Pinkett Smith. (Hancock opens nationwide on July 2.)
Looking pretty in pink, Leona Lewis was on hand to add a little star power….and to pick up a check! The British songstress is reportedly being paid over $2 million for personal appearances at parties.

I wouldn’t vote for Obama period, because of his lack of experience and “ready fire aim” mentality. I believe he spends too much time trying to sound smart versus doing any real thinking. He’s for higher gas prices, no drilling, a socialized government and his policies threaten our economic freedoms and ultimately our sovereignty. I don’t believe he can be offensive on the war on terror, nor slow the flow of illegals dancing into our country, I don’t think he has a grasp on how higher taxes flatten our economy, nor why socialism flattens the productivity and limits the American dream…
Obama IS shaming white people into voting for him because it would be the politically correct thing to do. looks like alot of you all are falling for it. the only thing democrats do to help poor people is keeping the welfare checks, foodstamps,medicaid and wic checks coming every month. they are buying the poor black and hispanic vote. i know this for a fact. i’m mexican(u.s. born). my mother was on welfare starting in the mid ’80s(’84 as i can remember). her social worker was always trying to get her off the system in the back to work program. she’d get a job. see her benefits decrease. quit, see her benefits increase. start a new job that her social worker got her and start all over again. she played this game until clinton was elected and didn’t have to participate in the back to work program anymore thanks to the democrats telling her” we are here to help you”. i was ashamed of her unwillingness to work to support her family and let the system take care of us. thank God when the youngest turned 18 she got kicked out of the system and had to earn a living by working. democrats keeps the poor where they want them-POOR AND IN NEED. the rich where they need them. a person who worked all their lives and suddenly finds themselves laid off doesn’t qualify as easily due to their income from the previous year being too high. welfare should be for the working family needing help till they get back on their feet. not for people who don’t want to work.
NEW DELHI: With Democrat senator Barack Obama busy in the run-up to the US presidential polls, a group of well-wishers in the capital have decided to send him a symbol of his lucky charm, Lord Hanuman, to help him emerge victorious.
Obama’s representative Carolyn Sauvage-Mar on Tuesday received a gold-plated two-feet-high idol which she will pass it on to the Obama after it is sanctified.
The idol is being presented to Obama as he is reported to be a Lord Hanuman devotee and carries with him a locket of the monkey god along with other good luck charms.
An hour-long prayer meeting to sanctify the idol was earlier organised at Sankat Mochan Dham and by Congress leader Brijmohan Bhama, Balmiki Samaj and the temple’s priests.
“Obama has deep faith in Lord Hanuman and that is why we are presenting an idol of Hanuman to him,” said Bhama.
Accepting the souvenir, Sauvage-Mar, who is chairperson of Democrats Abroad-India, said, “Obama has extended his thanks for the support.”
However, questions on Obama’s religious beliefs elicited just a smile from Sauvage-Mar, apparently to avoid controversy back home where the Democrat senator is pitted against the Republican Party’s John McCain in the Presidential polls.
The idol will be kept at the temple for 11 more days and then sent to US.
“We will perform the prayers for 11 days and then hand the idol to Carolyn who will send it to Obama,” said the temple priest.

I think some people think just because they have colour in their skin and are somewhat of an A-list celebrity they should associate themselves with Nelson Mandela….some may argue against that but I am sure many agree with me deep down!

As for Arki Busson, he has a big charity organization called ARK which donates millions, alot of it to AIDS groups in Africa.
