2008 BET AWARDS: ARRIVALS

Keyshia Cole was all smiles as she arrived to the 2008 BET Awards in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

In a night filled with fashion disasters, the R&B soulstress kept in trend by donning a red carpet gown-cum-raincoat.

Luckily for Miss Cole, talent triumphs over style.

The immensely talented singer is up for three big awards, including Best Female R&B, Best Collaboration and the coveted Viewers Choice Award.

You know, it kind of seems like having “The BET Awards” promotes racism in a way. I mean there are no” WET Awards”. Is it that only minorities are allowed to have specific, race based shows??? ie The latin Grammy Show”, Ms.Black America, etc. and the majority gets zip ???? How are we all going to get together with all this going on??? I need to check this out with Don Imus and get his take on it. LOL !!!!

Those shoes are completely atrocious! The dress looks like it began life as a window treatment. Apparently, she just threw on a balloon valance, belted it, and tried to call it fashion.

Yuck. Awful outfit. The dress looks really cheap and it’s just too short for her. I see where you are coming from MikeC…it’s not really promoting equality is it? I never really thought of it that way.

wow…do i even need to dignify some of these comments…it is not racist to have a show that celebrates one’s culture and experiences. these shows are coming from MINORITY groups that historically (and even today) don’t have the same representation in the media (in whatever form) as whites and have even been misrepresented or stereotyped….sure there have been various strides made like the emergence of hip hop in the mainstream, etc., but as a general matter, particularly when it comes to control and power, this is true…i have to say i always find it so ignorant when people make this comment….

I understand your point “normal”–however–the fact remains; these shows etc. still help in keeping the races apart. Sounds like you are advocating a “separate but equal” type of arragement between the races. Can that really even happen when blacks are less than 18% of the population these days?? I admit, its a tough road to travel but sometimes I wonder–whats the real goal here??? Don’t mean to open a can of worms here–just some thoughts.

i caould it if BET omits whites but they have a lot of whites on there adn i was watching comicview and more whites were cracking up and laughing than blacks… i can see it being racist if they said no whites allowed which is what they have done to blacks over the years… but oh damn dont let a black person get their own things…. here comes the jealousy! they even have white comics on htere! damn!

What about Irish TV in USA???? That sounds good. Lets have an all Irish awards show and entertainment network. maybe an all British ET?? Italian ET?? or German ET? Polish ET, that is good. Might as well have all minorities have their own networks and award shows.
Indian, Chinese, Japanese, etc etc. USA houses everyone of every kind. Why please tell me Why the black and latino population have singled themselves out as the deserving. Why not incorporate into existing award shows. Not racist??? bull….. IF white people ever decided to have WET or an award show dedicated to White ET the world nowadays would go up in arms. dont tell me they wouldn’t.
If so many want to all get along….. why dont we and stop the labeling and celebrate the way we are the same.
