So, what pearls of wisdom did Oprah Winfrey impart to Stanford University students yesterday in her commencement speech?

Here are a few highlights:

- “The secret I’ve learned to getting ahead is being open to the lessons.”

- “Money is pretty nice. I like money. It’s good for buying things. But having a lot of money does not automatically make one a successful person. What you want is money and meaning - you want your work to be meaningful, because meaning is what brings the real richness to your life.”

- “Every wrong decision was the result of me not listening to my voice. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it.”

- One student said the speech was “extremely inspirational.”

I think Gayle’s daughter may have graduated this year from Stanford…and that’s why she was asked (and agreed) to speak. Anyone know for sure? Care?

Oprah cops a lot of criticism, especially lately there seems to be a bit of backlash. I think she’s a very good person though, even if she does come across a little fake sometimes. She never speaks down to her audience and always gives the impression that she wants to learn as well and wants to share her learning with her audience and her guests. Whether it’s fake or not, it’s worked for her for years. Anybody that can give as much money as she does to charity and raises awareness for so many causes, gets a thumbs up from me.
