ANGELINA JOLIE DOES ‘ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY’

The Jolie-Pitt clan is inescapable, between Angelina’s upcoming movie Wanted and the arrival of their twins in France any day now. She opens up to Entertainment Weekly about the trouble with finding gifts for Brad, special time with the kids and the new tattoo she drew for him.

Angie on who helps her read scripts: “I’m terrible at reading scripts. I love to read and I hate reading scripts. Brad reads a lot because he’s also producing. We’re always joking about the fact that I just hate it. I have no patience. I can’t watch movies either. What usually will happen is I’ll talk to Geyer about what stage I’m at in my life and what type of a woman or story I’m looking to tell. Like with Wanted, I call and say, ”I really feel like I have to do something that’s physical right now.” Right now I don’t want to work at all. I want to stay home, so the few things we’ve talked about are the amazing, once-in-your-lifetime things, like Atlas Shrugged. But other than that, I’m not looking.”

Angie on whether she and Brad are thinking about doing Atlas Shrugged together: “We’ve talked about that. But we’ve also talked about, Would that be good for the film? It would have to really work for the audience and not hurt the story. It’s been 50 years of people trying to pull a movie together. If it comes together it’d be hard to say no to. The people who have the rights are itching to do it. They were itching to do it before, but [looks at her pregnant belly] I got myself in a state!”

Angie on her being polarizing (either you love her or hate her): “I’d like to think it’s because I’m not neither here nor there in my life. I think anybody that makes a decision about where they stand is going to cause strong opinions about them. But I think that’s what you should be hoping for in life, so I take that as a very good sign. That some people support me and some people really don’t like me tells me that I’m making decisions and I’m standing strong for something I believe in. I’m making choices in life. And that’s the right thing to do.”

Angelina on reconciling her previous knives and cutting persona to her newfound humanitarian mother persona: “But again, it’s not that different. The reason I talked about going through certain pains or even cutting myself is that I was already out the other side. I knew there were people that do that — and somehow are happy that somebody admitted they did and discussed how they got out of it. I don’t see the point of doing an interview unless you’re going to share the things you learn in life and the mistakes you make. So to admit that I’m extremely human and have done some dark things, I don’t think makes me unusual or unusually dark. I think it actually is the right thing to do and I’d like to think it’s the nice thing to do.”

Angie on whether she has any regrets (like all that business about wearing the vial of Billy Bob Thornton’s blood around her neck)?: “No! It was never a vial anyway. It was like a flower press. It was like from a slight cut on your finger and you press your fingerprint in. It was kind of a sweet gesture. I thought it was kind of romantic! I still love him dearly and think the world of him and I’m proud to have been his wife for a time. I don’t believe in regrets. It’s a dangerous habit to get into — it makes you pause in your life if you start thinking back and questioning yourself.”

Angelina on what she learned from her mother about being a mother: “When Brad saw Changeling he said he could see my mother. That was very much my mother. Hated yelling at people, really was so decent and so sweet, but when it came to protecting her children, she somehow found this odd strength. There’s an elegance to her that I don’t really have; there’s a kindness.”

Angie on the best and worst things about being pregnant: “It’s all just so nice. You just really can’t complain about anything as long as you know the babies are looking healthy. The only thing that’s hard for me now is with twins and having four kids, there’s a lot of the doctor saying ”Stop picking them up as much.” But we’ve worked out a system where Brad just lifts them to me every time they want to come up. I just don’t bend down. I’ll scream, ”Honey!” and he’ll come running and lift them up. Or they climb on chairs, so it’s not as big of a lift. So we’re trying to follow doctor’s orders, but I’m bending them a tiny bit.”

Angie on how she will handle soon having six kids all under the age of 8 under one roof: “Well, we weren’t expecting twins! So it did shock us, and we jumped to six quickly. But we like a challenge. We really don’t know. His mom and dad are on standby to come out and help. And fortunately we can hire help if we need it, but we’re going to try as we usually do to balance it as well as we can. The only thing for us when a new child comes home is just balancing the others. Our real focus now is: How do we make sure that the babies’ coming is not upsetting to other kids and makes them feel included. They’re old enough to feel included to change diapers themselves, to feed bottles themselves, like if I pump into a bottle. We’re trying to find ways where it can be a fun group thing. But the hard thing is every single day trying to find time for each of them privately. ‘Cause that’s our big thing. With our eldest, we have that last half an hour at night; Shiloh tends to be the first up in the morning. Everybody gets special time so we can make sure we know where they’re at.”

Angie on her ideal way to spend a free Saturday: “I have a lot of those. Very simple things. On weekends we usually have family sleep. We always have one night a week where everybody stays up late, watches a movie, and stays in our bed. We have, like, a slumber party.”

Angie on Brad’s new tattoo: “I drew that. We went to Davos. It’s not that we were bored at the World Economic Forum, but one night we didn’t have anything to do, so I was drawing on his back.”

Angie on whether the tattoo has any meaning: “I mean, it’s meaningful in that it’s us making angles and shapes out of each other’s body, that kind of a thing.”

To me, Angelina stand for women who sleep with married men. I have nothing to do with that sort of woman.

Yes Jennifer she’ll be crushed when she hears that news. I’m sure you were standing in the room the first time Brad and Angelina fucked while he was married. Stupid dumbfuck.

The operative word here is “dangerous”, because that’s what she is.

Out of the mouths of… something, I’m not sure what. But this woman couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag, and the above tells you exactly why. Ask Meryl Streep is she reads scripts, or if she ‘hates it’.

She bought herself a decent nose job to elevate herself from mediocrity… Angie, honey, it’s only working on the lowest of the common denominators.

hotstuff — the norm for most actors is to not like reading scripts. that’s what agents are for. it’s not like reading a novella; it’s a bare bones deal.

i’m mixed on angelina but i thought this was an interesting interview. the family does sound fun.

eek, thanks for cluing those in who did not know that one of the functions of an agent or increasingly it seems a manager is to read scripts for their clients. A script is just that, sort of an outline in many cases. Brad and Angelina seem to be very much alike, both pretty quirky, and very much in love with each other. The family seems quite happy. I guess it is a shock if a couple is expecting to hear good news about one baby conceived to find out that there are two babies on the way. Glad that family, Brad’s Mom and Dad, are on standby to come and help out when the twins are born. Loved Angelina’s explanation of Brad’s back tattoo. Nice interview.

She was pregnant when she did this interview, so it would suffice she was pregnant in the photoshoot.. and I don’t know about the rest of you, but pregnancy can do some crazy things to your body and face soooo not gonna be too judgemental of her pics.
    *
Everything else she said makes perfect sense and if it were someone you know who made great changes to be a better person, you wouldn’t be so judgemental.. it’s Angie and haters are gonna hate her no matter what.. and that’s their choice. Though I think a lot of peoples arguments for hating her are just because it’s her and not what she’s done.

STFU, Jennifer. Where you there? No. People are SO lame sometimes. Anyway, I don’t particularly like these pictures but I still love Angie. I think it’s a great interview.

eek - The ‘norm’ is the reason why 95% of most movies and actors today suck. It’s not the ‘norm’… it’s the lack of standards that is rarmpant in this business. And trust me, the good actors read their scripts. Some of them even write them.

    June-12-2008 @ 12:00 pm

^^ She didn’t say she doesn’t read scripts. Only that she’s terrible at it and hates it. In order for her to have developed a value judgement about them, she has to have read them.

Angie: no tengo paciencia.

She is perfect for Dagny and only because she’s a good actor, but because she knows this book. She don’t agree totally with Rand, but nor do many who still find much in her books and phlosphy to appreciate. She will do the role justice, and I don’t expect closed minds who would allow personal negative feelings about her to rule the day instead of a fair assessment of take on Dagny. People wth that opinion is not anyone with an opinion worthy of Rand anyway.
