Is the Golden Age of Oprah coming to an end?
New York Magazine reports that her TV show ratings are down 7%, circulation of O magazine has fallen more than 10% and her reality show, Oprah’s Big Give, steadily lost nearly one-third of its audience during its eight-week run.
Add to that Miss Winfrey’s sudden and needless interest in politics (backing Barack Obama aliented her non-Barack supporters) and her many hypocritical shows (i.e. Oprah bawling her eyes out over the dog mill episode when she herself owns a bunch of pure bred pups).
That being said, when is Tyra on?

I still love Oprah but she is a hypocrite. However, she’s still doing a lot more good than bad. And please don’t ever compare her to Tyra. One is a powerful black woman and the other is a back-stabbing, drag queen.

Ok. I’m now officially conviced that most people are complete idiots (as are the writers of that article). I’ve got news for you… statistically ALL of tv is in decline. In order for that article to mean anything, they would have to compare her decline to the decline of television viewership on the WHOLE over the past several years. It never ceases to amaze me how the obvious and elementary can escape people. Dumb asses. P.S., I don’t care for Oprah or her show so this post was NOT in defense of her (rather, it was in defense of intelligence).
Oprah has become the 300lb beast that has finally been taken down a few notches. I saw right threw her years ago, oh and her new age religion has also added to her slow demise.

In the beginning her liberal politics were subtle, but she lost me when she turned the show into blatant propaganda. I watch tv for entertainment not for telling how to think.
tv, newspapers, movies and any form of media that is biased has shown decline, People are tired of being spoon fed liberal views and are turning to alternative media.
I feel that her show has become more ‘afrocentric’ and less mainstream, so she IS alienating white viewers. She also has a political agenda, spiritual agenda and dietary agenda that not many people are interested in, as well as her ‘Oldies’ shows which mean nothing to the younger viewers. Who really cares about the Mary Tyler Moore show and The Osmonds! Give us some Favorite Things, Nate makeovers and some interesting interviews. 3 days of the ‘Hoarding Lady’ is too much!
The reason her show became afrocentric is because of going to the same church as the Obama’s, where racist Rev. jeremiah wright spews his marxist black liberation theology.

Well, let’s be accurate here–just because you have pure-bred dogs doesn’t mean that you patronize puppy mills. In fact, dogs in puppy mills are probably less-likely to be pure-bred because of lax breeding and record-keeping procedures. Ain’t nothing wrong with pure-bred dogs, you just have to be diligent in finding a reputable breeder to buy them from. The villains are the solely profit-motivated people who run the puppy mills, who don’t care for the health and happiness of the dogs and treat them like an inanimate natural resource to be discarded when they’re too sick, too worn out, or too genetically effed-up to produce profitably anymore.

I agree with you supernova that the television market has hit a rough patch as of late, but Ellen DeGeneres has actually gained viewers in the same market this past year. Also her magazine’s circulation has dropped by ten percent. According to a Gallup poll, her “favorable” ratings have dropped and her her “unfavorable†mark have risen by almost ten percent. For years she was the most popular talk show host, but she has been beaten last year by Ellen DeGeneres.
I think there are several reasons. 1. Ellen DeGeneres 2. Becoming way to commercial and materialistic “You get a car, and you get a car”. She always was a savvy businesswoman but when she realized the impact she had on soccer moms with her book club and her favorite things show, she saw the possibilities and went overboard. 3. Epidemic shows. If I hear another show being announced with the words “America’s epidemic” or “America in crisis” I’m going to puke 4. Barry Manilow, The Osmonds and Mary Tyler Moore? Ehm yeah.5.Still pimping diets when it’s obvious she doesn’t have her diet under control 6.Lying about “blowing out her thyroid” and then becoming better by resting. Well I have a thyroid problem and there is no such thing as healing your thyroid with some resting.

OPRAH … from spending several years in Jeremiah Wright’s anti-American racist church, listening to sermons like “God Damn America”, and giving life time achievement awards to the likes of Louis Farrakhan … to her newest opportunistic religious beliefs … who could possibly take Oprah seriously? This woman’s ego is soooo big, being a billionaire celebrity isn’t enough, she has to start her own religion … not to mention all the additional money she is going to make selling all those book, tapes, CD’s, etc. to her poor followers. Oprah’s new power hungry ambitions include efforts to replace traditional America with Obama … and access to a President she puts into office … to her efforts at replacing Christianity with a new religion she controls. I think it’s time for America to deny Oprah access to our television sets.
