Check out a photo of Steven Curtis Chapman and his family, who today are trying to cope with the tragic death yesterday afternoon of 5-year-old Maria Sue Chapman, the youngest daughter of Steven and Mary Beth Chapman. (She’s the one on Steven’s lap.)
Maria was hit by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the Chapman home in Franklin, Tenn. She was rushed to Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there. Maria is one of the family’s six children and one of their three adopted daughters.
More than five years ago, Chapman and his wife MaryBeth founded The Shaohannah’s Hope Ministry after bringing their first adopted daughter, Shaohannah, home from China. The ministry’s goal is to help families reduce the financial barrier of adoption, and has provided grants to over 1700 families wishing to adopt orphans from around the world.
Fans are offering their support as the word spreads throughout the Christian music community.

That is such a sad story…Condolences to the family.
what a tragedy….
Tragic beyonds words
Rear back up beepers and cameras need to become standard equipment on SUVs
Sad………..Prayers are with him
Our prayers are with the family.
Sadness
Bad things happening to good people…. very sad indeed. and “mg”–what good are prayers going to do–the child is dead……
Prayers are for God’s saving grace and love. God will provide peace and heal the wounded heart. God is amazing!! God never promises to keep us from harm but He always promises to be there to see us through trying times. John 16:33
One down, two more to go! Guess Chapman’s are having for dinner tonight? Sweet n’ Sour Maria over rice. That ain’t chicken baby!
She was blessed and a blessing and my prayers are for those left behind. God bless the family and the son as I know he is feeling so much guilt even though it was an accident. I’m so happy that the family had the time they did with Maria as she looks like an angel on earth even though she’s now one in heaven.
Delish, I’ve got no choice but to conclude you’re unhappy existence, and your need for attention. I feel sorry for you.
Can’t these increasingly and obvious attempts at saying horrible and racist comments be taken down?? I mean, my God.
I’m a dumbf**k RACIST
Delish, acknowledging that you are an ass doesn’t make it right.
People don’t encourage negative behavior by actually acknowledging such racist comments
Awww that is so horrific. I feel terrible for the family. She was adorable.
she was so gorgeous…
Very sad.
This is just awful. What a terrible tragedy to touch this lovely family. That poor young boy will have to live with that his whole life. I hope it was just an accident and he wasn’t speeding or drink driving or anything like that. My thoughts and prayers are with this family in such a difficult time and hopefully they will all be able to support each other and get through it together.
hey chapman family….where was your precious god when you’re child was being crushed under the wheels of a 2-ton vehicle? i’m sure somewhere in the family statement it will say “god felt it was her time”. christians are SICK. at no time is it ok for a child that young and innocent to be taken away forever.
at the same time, it is very very sad about the little girl, and for her family.
Proud Athiest- God gives and takes away, which is something that is difficult to comprehend when it comes so early. That is why as christians we understand that this life is only temporary and what we look forward to what lies ahead. We should never take any rmoment for granted however, and thank God daily for every day we have to share joy and love with one another.
well lori, while your god gives and takes away, why would “he” choose to make a child (or anyone for that matter) suffer such a horrendous death? not just the physical pain, but the added emotional pain of knowing that a family member killed her (accident or not). i’m sure it wasn’t a lights-out-go-to-sleep type death. i’m sure that poor child suffered. i’m not even going to bother any further. no point in arguing with a christian because everyone KNOWS they are always going to be right…..LMAO
Proud Athiest- I am not even going to begin to believe I know all of what or why things happen exactly the way they do. My father died within weeks of a cancer diagnosis when I was a baby. There was a lot of suffering in a short time with devistating consequence. That said, he nor my mother ever blamed God. We as christians have an understanding that life is short, for some shorter. As I said before, it is the promise of no pain or suffering that makes heaven so different. That is a truth I know with all my being. It is not about arguing with you and being right, it is about the reality that christians live, and I honestly pray that you can find that one day. It puts this life in a much different perspective.
proud…How do you know she suffered a horrible death? You are assuming…I pray that someday you will see the light of the almighty Savior..Jesus Christ
Trust that God took care of that little girl in a way that we will never comprehend…he made her transition from earth to Heaven a remarkable one….
If given the chance..she would never want to come back to earth as we know it….Maria is basking in love of God and that is amazing….
God had this young girls’s life planned out before she was even born..God knows when we will be born, He knows what we will go through..our hardships and our triumps…He knows when our demise will be…It is all at His mercy and will….
Once gain proud..open a Bible and read John 16:33. This verse tells us that in this world we will have trouble, but behold God reigns.
^^^ummm, her “transition from earth to Heaven” was via the wheels of a truck, dipshit. While I might call that “horrific” and “unspeakable”, I don’t think I’d call it “remarkable.”
So you’re telling me that God said of Maria, “Yep, I’m gonna run this one over. And, uhhh, I think I’ll have her brother do it! Yeah! That’s the ticket. So she’ll have a totally short time on earth, and I can make the rest of her brother’s life a torment, because he’ll never, ever forget that he killed his sister. Wowza–I’d call that a twofer, for sure!
Yes ma’am–God certainly did take care of that little one in a way I certainly can’t comprehend…
You Jeebus freaks sure know how to rationalize all sorts of crap, I’ll give you that.
Anon.. You don’t get it and someday I pray that someday you do. I understand Jesus and comprehend his ways…you don’t. I will never debate what you said because there is nothing to debate. Steven Curtis Chapman and his family have found their true strength in the Lord…That is all that matters.
It is not about rationalizing anything, it is about knowing the truth. I seek the truth in the Holy Bible and you?
proud atheist, you can believe what you want to, but you’re an ass for gloating over such a tragedy
Bro. Chapman & Family. I am sorry to hear that this happened to you and your family. I can’t imagine the pain you all are dealing with. I pray that God grant you strength and comfort you as you are dealing with this trying time in your life. My prayer for the son is that he doesn’t allow this to eat him up. It was purely an accident and I pray the peace of God that surpasses all understanding guard his heart and mind through Christ Jesus. My prayer is that a spirit of peace fall fresh on your entire family. In Jesus Name…Amen….
