OM SHANTI: MIKE MYERS IN HOT WATER

Religious groups in India want to ban screenings of new Mike Myers movie The Love Guru because it “lampoons Hinduism.”

Media reports Tuesday quoted Bhavna Shinde, a representative of Mumbai-based Hindu organization Janjagruti Samiti and Sanatan Society for Scientific Spirituality as saying that the censor board should “stop distributing or screening the movie till Paramount has made necessary changes … so that it will not hurt the feelings of the worldwide spiritual and Hindu community.”

Hmmm…and here we thought the first protests would be outcries from movielovers over Jessica Alba’s chronic lackluster acting chops!

Why can’t people take a freaking joke. If the Gods or God doesn’t like it, I’m sure he/she or they will take care of the culprits in their own way.. don’t these people believe in Karma? Why not let Karma handle this?

    Everyone is so damn sensitive.

seriously? do you think religious groups in America would stand by idle if Christianity was distorted and presented for humiliation in such a way? of course not. hinduism is a religion that is too often misunderstood by the western world. it’s good that india is banning this movie’s screenings…not only for the religious content but for how crappy a movie it looks to be also.

theocdisorder - Xtianity is misrepresented every single day. And it’s not coming from film or television. It’s coming from the extremists of any religion. Not every Muslim wants to annihilate the West, not every Xtian is going to go out and blow up an abortion clinic. But these extremists and lowest common denominators give a bad name to the moderate/”normal” adherents of the religion they claim to adhere to. It’s a film. It can’t do nearly as much damage as religious extremists. Don’t be so uptight.

Well, you have to know that they picked Hinduism and not Muslim(ism?) for this movie, because Mike Myers doesn’t care to have a Fatwa issued on his head. The Muslims are just so humorless like that. Really. Just ask Salman Rushdie. And that silly British lady who dared to name a teddy bear Mohammed.

Perhaps the Indians need to work together collectively to become a terrorist faction in the world, and then nobody will make fun of them. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Luckily hindus don’t blow you up or decapitate you when offended.

Is it really that serious? I thought the whole point of COMEDY was to make fun of stuff (including religion). Get over it, people. I think the movie will be funny.

the oc disorder — are you kidding? There are ump-teen freaking movies making fun of jewish / christian culture ALL THE FREAKING TIME!! what rock have you been under? (Heaven Help Us, Holy Man, Dogma, Blue Heaven.. South Park, Family Guy… the list goes on and on)
    .
IMO… like I said, if you believe your God or Gods are so powerful.. won’t society be punished for defaiming or defacing said God(s) through devine means… heaven, hell, karma? And if God’s not gonna punish you (b/c he just doesn’t care or whatever), then there really is no reason to MAKE people be “considerate” of your god or religion. Doesn’t that make sense to thinking people?
    .
Let me clarify, I in no way am saying one God or religion is better or more correct than the other.. I just think there are far more things to be concerned about in this world than being so damn uptight over something none of us TRULY know for sure 100% — people are dying everyday for this stuff…

point taken. religious groups get mad at the tv/movie industry all the tim. i still think that dogma & south park approached religion in a clever way, whereas this movie looks absolutely horrid and ignorant.
