It was a big snoozefest on ‘The View’ this morning as Whoopi Goldberg sat (silently) in as guest co-host.
Barbara Walters opened the show by saying that ex-alum Rosie O’Donnell would not be back and “this makes us very sad.” She said she and Rosie had “been e-mailing each other all weekend with affectionate notes.”
Babs also kind of defended the controversial split screen that so irked Rosie, saying, “we’ve used it” before. “I just think that so much was exacerbated by a very hot discussion.” She added that she was “grateful” to Rosie and she is “welcome back at any time.”
And while Ro indicated in a video on her blog that she and Elisabeth Hasselbeck might never be able to be friends, Elisabeth said on the show that she and Rosie were in communication over the weekend and she was tackling one of the most important “hot topics” yet — “the power of forgiveness. I believe we’ve begun that process.”
Our thoughts? Was this just damage control? I mean, the firey exchange/split screen did come at a rather opportune time (i.e. Sweeps!) Do we blame Barbara for being the mastermind behind this massive publicity stunt? Or was this just a clash of two passionate souls? Disucss.

I’m tired of this story. Why can’t two people have a disagreement and act like adults about it? This continued coverage is ridiculous.

Why does everyone seem to care so much about this? I don’t know anyone that really watched this show.
Hasselbeck could easily be one of Rosie’s tampons.
It is funny how EH says they have been in contact but Rosie said in her blog that she had called and talked to Kelli but Rosie would never talk to her again because there was no need to.
Who are these people that are able to watch these early day shows? I can’t imagine that stay-at-home Moms, the retired, the unemployed or even the night shift workers would be interested enough to keep it on air…maybe I am wrong.
But seriously…. who are these people watching these shows???
my2cents: Rosie said in that long BORING video that she had emailed EH and that EH emailed her back, that is what she expects to be the extent of any future contact.

Me: My wife got me watching the show right after Rosie came on board, it was actually pretty interesting. I doubt I’ll watch it now. The guest are always the same as Good Morning America and Live w/ Regis & Kelly (b/c they are all right there together in the ABC studios in NYC) so w/o the turmoil the View will be BORING!
Rosie is a big fat pussy. She walks out with only a couple weeks left over a stupid fight with Elizabeth. What a chickenshit she really is. She’ll be too busy all summer chasing Barbra Streisand all over Europe to catch every concert she gives.

adam, well rosie went to a shitload of barbra’s concerts here in the usa, so she will probably haul her bull dyke fat ass to europe to cry at all the show’s there. she loves to talk about how her and her dead mother listened to babs until the neighbors couldn’t take it anymore.!!!!

I think its pretty obvious that the only reason that Barbra would have wanted Rosie to stay on the show was to create more controversy. When Rosie was on the show she acually made me NOT want to watch due to the fact that her arrogance and obnoxious attitude toward everything just drove me insane. And I don’t really think Elisabeth owes Rosie any forgiveness…they were never really friends anyway and Rosie made Elisabeth look stupid and disregarded any opinion (right or wrong) that she had. While I don’t agree with either of Rosie or Elisabeths opinions, I think that Elisabeth handled herself a lot better than Rosie and didn’t stoop to insults in order to ‘win’.
The show today was crap…and will probably be crap from now on. No matter how Babs tried to spin it today, there is no forgiveness. The show will be done with by next year. And Lizzie will be the only one crying, cause she aint going to get a job anywhere else!!!

EH is such a waste of oxygen. It was apparent to me that Rosie took issue Elizabeth on a personal level — because EH refused to stand up for the truth and back Rosie up on claims that were completely ridiculous.
While I didn’t always agree with Rosie and often found her to be a big bully, she made the show watchable again. I won’t be tuning in.
Question for anyone: I haven’t watched the clips of the whole thing unfolding…where was Joy during all of this? Quietly filing her nails? Her opinions are often just as strong as Rosie’s. To me, the honchos at ABC knew it was sweeps, that the end was near, and saw it as an opportunity to create a firestorm. They stoked the fire backstage knowing it would come to a full boil with cameras rolling.
Joy stayed out of it because she knew it was going to come to a big ole season ending blowout.
