Photographed by Craig McDean, big screen beauty Charlize Theron graces the June cover of W magazine.
Inside the mag, the 32-year-old actress hits out at film fans, claiming modern audiences are obsessed with “fluff.”
Miss Theron is bitter her most recent movie The Valley of Elah underperformed at the box office and is frustrated she can’t find more roles playing strong women, like in 2005’s North Country, and Monster - which won her a Best Actress Oscar in 2004.
Says Charlize: “I asked Michael Seitzman, who wrote North Country, ‘Why don’t you write these kind of stories more; these roles for women?’ He said, ‘There isn’t the demand for it.’ It’s not necessarily Hollywood’s fault. People don’t go to see these movies. I think it’s a bigger problem. We’ve become completely fluff obsessed.”

Yeah gorgeous cover but I can’t say I’m a big fan of hers, something about her really irritates me. I think she’s right in a way about the fluff, but most people like to go the movies and escape the worries of their everyday life and have a bit of a laugh or get into an action movie or something like that. I certainly have to be in the mood if I’m going to see a really intense, thought-provoking movie because sometimes its just not what you are looking for. I feel like the majority of people that go to the movies anyway are teens and as if they are going to see something that they most likely will not understand.

I really enjoyed North Country. Have yet to see Monster. I’m kind of avoiding heavy tear-jerkers though (hell, I can cry very easily– even just watching a 30-second clip), so maybe I’m guilty of the fluff ;o). The last couple of movies I saw in the theaters was The Orphanage and Lars and the Real Girl. Beautiful cover.
