Alicia Keys is totally backpeddling!
In a public statement issued just moments ago from J.Records, the “conspiracy theorist” said she was clarifying “comments that were made during my recent Blender magazine interview since they have been misrepresented.”
As you may recall, FYB ran a few excerpts from an interview in Blender’s May issue where the 27-year-old singer said: “‘Gangsta rap’ was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. ‘Gangsta rap’ didn’t exist.”
She was also quoated as saying that wears a gold AK-47 pendant around her neck “to symbolize strength, power and killing ‘em dead.”
Here’s what A.Keys has to say now:
“My comments about ‘gangsta rap’ were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music. The point that I was trying to make was that the term was oversloganized by some of the media causing reactions that were not always positive. Many of the ‘gangsta rap’ lyrics articulate the problems of the artists’ experiences and I think all of us, including our leaders, could be doing more to address these problems including drugs, gang violence, crime, and other related social issues.”
As for the whole AK-47 remark, Alicia said that AK-47 is a nickname given to her by friends “as an acronym for Alicia Keys and a metaphor for wowing people with my music and performances, ‘killing ‘em dead’ on stage. The reference was in no way meant to have a literal, political or negative connotation.” Uh-huh….
Meanwhile, Blender spokeswoman Kate Cafaro says, “We stand by our story.”

Bull fucking shit!!! Alicia Keys hates white peolple and its obvious. I for one, will never ever buy anything she produces or is involved it.
I think this is getting blown out of proportion. She is not a racist of any kind.
Sounds Racist to me!!! Not a good career move!!
Wait a minute…. isn’t she half white???
This is what happens when a DUMB CELEB speaks without their publicist, image consultant and lawyer present during interviews.
Tupac and Biggie leaders hahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahhahahahaah
She must have the same preacher as Obama and Oprah, the REV. RACIST JEREMIAH WRIGHT.
She should have just stood by what she said. I would have respected her more. This backpeddling is cheap and unauthentic. Alicia needs to go away now.
haha MG.
I never believed the story to begin with…Its Alicia Keys were talking about here… and its Blender Mag. what cred do they have?
By trying to explain her story I think she’s sounding even more stupid. This is not a good thing for her career. I bet she’s regretting some of the things she said, whether it was blown out of proportion or not. The things she said just sounded like she was trying to sound smart and educated but they just came out as ridiculous with no basis. Her music has gone downhill anyway…I don’t feel like her voice is anywhere near as good as it was when she first came out.
America is just awakening to the shocking reality of reverse racism, Michelle “I’ve never been proud of my country” Obama, Oprah and Obama’s pastor,Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Kanye, Malik Shabazz, and many celebs.

You are an idiot anon along some other people on this thread. There is a difference between prejudice and reaction to prejudice. Your inability to be all to draw a distinction between the two is a reflection of your ignorance.
She is backpeddling because she is being told to and because she has to in order to keep her stature. You cannot say certain things in the public because people will distort it and not want to have any of it!!! God artists who have mad comments in regard to politics, society and social issues have all lost favor with some people.
Love truth Reread my post slowly you didn’t get it the first time.
I kind of think “Anonymous” may have a valid point in her posts. At any rate, I still think Alicia has gone over the edge.
I’m with reply 6 — the idea of Tupac and Biggie as leaders is just gut-bustingly hilarious. Imagine, Tupac leading the people. Oh sure, Alicia. You are on to something there!
I don’t mind hearing artist’s opinions, but those with paranoid conspiracy theories should just shut the fuck up already.
There is no such thing as “reverse discrimination” people. The original intitled superior race kill me with believing that they’ve somehow caught a non-white person (”believe me when I tell you that I know a truckload of native Americans, Asians, Latino’s…..including myself, and basically anyone who’s of color who’s had to hold back reacting to the generational actions towards those who aren’t”) in some kind of “ooooh, looky see the coloured said a baddie about a whitey” trick bag. It’s not racism at all. It’s people finally voicing their reaction to the white man’s actions towards them (us) generation upon generation without one thought that one day they’d actually hear a voice angry still at the injustice white people have had no problem with leveling on those not like them. The arrogance amazes me.
so all white people are responsible and thus deserve scorn and hate?
and tell me more about ‘generation upon generations’ of ‘white man’s actions.’
because i specifically didn’t get into upenn because i’m white…amongst other things.
good stuff ‘i’m talkin bout you.’
what decade are you from you poor little oppwessed thing?!
WOW !!! looks like a whole bunch of people have got big chips on their shoulders !!!!
Honestly I don’t think she’s removing her foot from her mouth.
A lot of the media likes to create controversy and “edit” things to appear one way rather than the next.
I have seen prior interviews (print and video) and she’s quite intelligent and very politically opinionated and involved. She is by no means ignorant or dumb. I firmly believe that what she was trying to say was misconstrued. I don’t think she’s backpeddling, I think she’s clarifying as to what she meant when she said what she said.
As for the comment about 2Pac and Biggie being leaders. One way or another those two men were iconic. I personally would not call them leaders but they were influential and possibly role models for a lot of people which is no different for all the people who idolize some form of celebrity or another. It’s not that ridiculous of a statement.
I’d love to get Ice-T’s, Cube’s, Public Enemy’s, etc. reaction to her statement that Gangter Rap ws invented as a conspiracy.
And as for Biggie and 2pac being killed to silence a leader…um…what? No. They were artists. They were not leaders in a “societal change/MLK” sense.
yes their right
o yea happy early birthday
