Now that Britney Spears’ made an official televison comeback, rumours are swirling that she may once again make a foray on to the small screen.

This, of course, begs the question: Why?

Page Six reports that Brit’s dad wants her to ditch music and pursue TV because she’s good at it and the hours are better.

A Spears insider said, “Britney did a great job on ‘How I Met Your Mother.’ She got the show its highest ratings yet, but more importantly for Jamie, he wants his daughter at a normal 9-to-5 job to keep her working and out of trouble. A sitcom would do that. So he’s exploring several offers for Britney to have her own show.”

May we suggest a remake of the Beverly Hillbillies?

yeahso? going to college doesn’t guarantee that you will be an upstanding citizen and neither does having a career out of the spotlight. There are PLENTY of people with advanced degrees who are addicted to drugs, have pshyco problems, are losers, etc. He’s trying to do things that will help her build her CHARACTER which is the key now. What does it matter if she goes to college if she lacks the discipline and understanding to see it through. Being on a sitcom is anything BUT glamorous. It’s nothing like a pop-star music career. I worked on them for many years with some pretty impressive talent. It’s as close to a 9-5 regular job as you can get in Hollywood. You have a very tight schedule that MUST be followed because you are accountable to the producers, your co-stars, the studio, the production assistants and everyone else who relies on the gig for their weekly salary. There are no cameras and paparazzi following you to the set because they aren’t allowed on the studio lots. She will get some sense of normalcy (compared to how her life has been) while earning money (which she should do at all times — she’s too young to wrest on her money right now — she needs to be working nonstop while she has the energy and her youth). THEN she can go to school (possibly even while she works). But a job on a sitcom offers a lot more structure which is what she needs the most (again, I think she should absolutely go to school at some point — but she has to take baby steps).

She can’t act, and the ONLY reason that show got “it’s highest ratings ever” is because people wanted too see if Britney would fuck up, or what she looked like. NOT because of her fabulous acting skills!
It is ridiculous to think she could carry a sitcom.

parissucksliterally, I’m surprised at your lack of understanding. MOST sitcom people AREN’T the best actors. That’s why they’re on sitcoms. The traditional hollywood wisdom HAS ALWAYS been, “if you’re on a sitcom, you aren’t good enough to do the big leagues — movies — or be taken seriously”. Now that has changed in the past five years because you now have big stars doing sitcoms and they have validated the genre. But you seem to not understand how fucking bad a lot of sitcom actors are (especially in the beginning). I have WATCHED people with minimal talent (like the rapper Eve) start out very shitty in their sitcoms and then improve to the point of being plausible in their roles (even Roseanne Barr was awful for the first two seasons of her show but by the end of the second season, she made her character believable and her comedic timing became genius). I’m a little curious, what the fuck do you think sitcom actors are known for if not their mediocre talent that could only survive in a sitcom setting? She would carry a sitcom just as well as the cast of “Saved by the Bell” carried a sitcom. They were all awful but with a supporting cast, promotion, digesteable scripts, they were fine (not academy award-winning) but good enough to attract a young audience that wanted to follow their growth on a half hour crapfest. THAT’S why Britney would do well with a sitcom. The level of expectations for sitcom actors is very low. She will do it, she will suck at first then she will improve - like they ALL do.

^^ and another question parissucksliterally, who the fuck pissed in your coffee this morning? The next time you judge another person’s comment as being “ridiculous” you should know what the hell you’re talking about yourself.

  9. the voice Says:

You know, it may not be a bad idea- she looked like she having fun doing the sitcom- and she really can’t sing, so maybe this is a good idea

  10. supernova Says:

^LoL, good point the voice. Hadn’t thought about it. Do we really want her singing again?

  11. bag of pubes Says:

I agree with Harley and PSL…the girl can’t act. Not *everyone* on a sitcom is a bad actor. That’s too broad a generalization. She was on that show because their on the verge of being cancelled…it was stunt-casting for a ratings boost, and it worked. People *did* tune in to see if she would suck ass, and she did. But the show got its highest ratings ever. Mission accomplished. If Britney’s got offers piling up, chances are she’ll just pick one to still be working and in the public eye. Her parents will return to Hicksville to take care of Jamie Lynn’s bastard, then Britney’s show will flop and she’ll start clubbin’ all over again. Just watch.
