MONKEY BUSINESS

tori-spelling-ok-magazine.jpg

“We call Liam our little monkey,” Tori Spelling says in the current issue of OK! magazine (on newsstands this week).

That’s why she and husband Dean McDermott threw a monkey-themed party — complete with Suzie, the chimp sporting an I Heart Liam t-shirt — for their son’s first birthday. (Liam was born March 13.) Among the 150 guests: Carmen Electra and Denise Richards.

A pregnant Tori announced last week that she and Dean are expecting a new addition, a girl, to their family.

Hahaha that’s a cute idea!! Little chimps are so adorable and I bet Liam had a blast. I was never a fan of Tori but I think she’s got a great family and in the past few years has shown a totally different side to her.

I don’t blame her publicity-seeking… she always seems to be on the brink of going broke, so it’s just another way of garnering some income. Liam is too cute, as is the chimp :o).

I respect Tori. She’s followed her own heart, made her own way as an adult, and has her own family. Can’t say that about too many of Hollywood’s children of the elite. So she hustles and keeps her name out there, she works hard and contributes to her family. Her and Dean are good together and Liam is adorable. Very cute how he looks like a cross between Dean and late Grandpa Aaron Spelling. Congrats to the McDermott’s on the forthcoming new addition!

I can relate because I have a monkey obsession and I call kids little monkeys, too. I think it’s cute. Liam is a cutie-pie, too.

Can we say chimp exploitation. Tori and Dean get a clue and get educated. That chimp you are holding is considered an infant. What do you think happens to these chimps once they are too big to handle? A few are lucky to end up in sanctuary’s but most are not so lucky. Good job promoting the exploitation of an endangered species all for your entertainment.

note on the Chimp at Liam’s party. Chimpanzees used for entertainment are often treated badly to get them to perform, kept in bad conditions and even if that is not the case they are discarded when they get older as they are NOT domesticated animals as our other pets are and they become unmanageable. They are often sold to laboratories for horrific medical experiements or sitting somewhere in a cage abandoned. Chimps are on the endangered species list and this country is far behind in acknowledging that. Most people are unaware how their habitats are threatened by deforestation and the bushmeat trade where mother chimps are killed and their babies taken off of their dead bodies and where do they end up..here and there for entertainment or pets or medical research. Even zoos in the United States are not capable of providing them the life they should have. None of these are a good life and they endure very much cruelty. Escape To Chimp Eden was (and will be on again) a show documenting the rescue of chimps in bad conditions. They are not meant to be pets and outgrow their cute baby character to formidable adults, capable of 5 times the strength of man. They are to be admired and respected for what they are. Not kept for entertainment purposes or any captivity.

We need to protect them in the wild and rescue the ones such as this baby chimp being used to for mans selfish purposes.

Good job Andrea & Karen. We need to pass along the information we have learned regarding the use of chimps for entertainment purposes. I admit that before Escape to Chimp Eden aired on Animal Planet, I was one of the uneducated and did not realize the plight of chimpanzees as I had nevery really thought about it before. I now understand that, among other things, chimps are endangered, they are treated badly and discarded by those who use them for entertainment purposes and they are losing their habitat due to deforrestation. Also, infant chimps are torn from their dead mother’s arms and sold after the mother is killed so she can be sold as bushmeat. One of the best things we can do to help the chimps is to pass along to others what we have learned. I encourage everyone to watch Escape to Chimp Eden when it returns to Animal Planet in November and to check out Chimp Eden’s website. “When you know better, you do better.”

Newsflash that is not a monkey your holding Tori, it’s a great ape an endangered species. Tori Spelling was sent a letter regarding the exploitation of chimps back in April. Apparently ego, money and ratings took precedence over doing the honorable thing since the episode is airing and there are pictures of the baby chimp on the internet. Shame on the Oxygen network for airing the show, and shame on any company that would sponsor a show that glorifies the exploitation of chimps. I too recommend watching chimp eden. Great show, great website, great people at chimp eden. Take the time to look into the plight of chimps here in the US and abroad and then tell me it’s fine to use a baby chimp that should be with it’s mother to provide entertainment at a birthday party because the parents thought it was cute since they call their son a little monkey…please…again that’s no monkey your holding tori…

I was a fan of this show until I saw this picture..Tori you need to go to the chimp eden site and study up on chimps and how they are endangered species..

    Educate yourself!!! Animal Cruelty

That chimp in Tori’s arms being exploited was probably ripped from it’s mothers body after she was killed for bush meat and sold as a pet. Yes, the chimp is cute and sweet but when she gets too big she will likely be put in a cage to live out the rest of her life as she will be too strong to handle.
I am also a Chimp Eden fan and rescuing these chimps is the mission of the sanctuary. I can understand the African tribes involvement in the bush meat trade better than I can understand how an educated woman who professes to be an animal lover can condone the exploitation of a baby chimp for her son’s birthday, which he won’t even remember!
As long as there is a profit to be made from these wonderful animals it will never stop! I am disappointed in Tori and Dean for adding to the owner’s pocket…I thought they knew better!

Like Karen & Andrea…I feel this is exploitation of a chmp (not a monkey)….I plead with Tori & Dean to please get informed about these beautiful endangered animals…go to the website for Escape to Chimp Eden, or the Jane Goodall Institute website…learn…these animals, like most wild animals that are kept as pets end up not having the life they deserve. Thank goodness there are people like Eugene Cussons who has made it his life to save those chimps in Africa that are held captative by humans and give them back the life they deserve. Even though one is an animal and one is a human, that chimp has rights just like your son, Liam…..and the chimp deserves to be “free” and live like a chimp like he was born to be……You are, from what I can tell from your show, always trying to find something to do..and to make money…check into it Tori…even if you do it part time, help raise money for these little guys to give them the life they deserve, the freedom, the freedom you, Dean, Liam and soon your daughter were born into.

    Tori-
You are old enough and should be wise enough to know better than to exploit a chimpanzee. Humans and chimps are both Great Apes. Would you like to be caged and treated in the same manner as the chimp? Please think about what you have done.

Tori - LOVE YOU! But you really should have thought about this. The chimps have a rough life once you all think they aren’t cute anymore. Escape to Chimp Eden, Eugene’s work, and the Jane Goodall institute is a great example of the right thing to do. http://www.janegoodall.co.za. Anyone involved there can help you figure out the best way to help out the chimps. (Perhaps adopt a chimp for your kids - they can look at pictures and live web cams of the chimps and they can learn, along with you, about how amazing these animals really are. I hope you read these posts and see the passion and love people have for you and for your family and for the chimps.

Tori & Dean….also check out this website: http://www.chimpsanctuarynw.org/, It’s for the Chimpanzee Sanctuary northwest, located here in the states, up in Washington. But all 3 sites are wonderful, Chimp Eden, The Jane Goodall and chimp Sanctuary nw….Again, please don’t keep thinking it’s cute to have a chimp for pet, a dog, cat, domestic birds, yes, but not chimps…they do not deserve this…
