A Boston woman is saying Oprah stole her idea for Big Give!!
Darlene Tracy, a mother of four, says that in February 2005 she came up with the concept for a reality show called The Philanthropist, in which contestants are challenged to help the needy. She sent her pitch to Oprah execs. They passed.
Then when Tracy saw the Big Give, she filed a complaint in U.S. District Court in Boston. Lawyers for Chicago-based Winfrey argued that Massachusetts wasn’t the place to fight the battle and the judge dismissed Tracy’s action, without an opinion.
Tracy has since hired a lawyer and filed an appeal. Oprah’s folks contend the suit is without merit.
Not surprisingly, the show-stealing talk show queen is buddy-buddy with Jerry Seinfeld and his plagiarist of a wife, Jessica. Proof positive that hacks of a feather fly together.

People are so fucking stupid and naive. I’ve worked for years in the entertainment industry. These morons looking for fame and fortune decide to send their “ideas” to major studios and execs without realizing that (i) you’re supposed to submitt material through your lawyer or agent to AVOID this shit (this chick probably sent it through the mail with a note that said “this is my idea - make me famous”) and (ii) oprah’s company and every other goddamned studio and/or production company in hollywood gets hundreds of submissions per week AND the studios have their own professional writers constantly coming up with show ideas so THE CHANCES THAT SHE’S THE ONLY ONE THAT CAME UP WITH THIS PARTICULAR IDEA (which ISN’T very original at all - especially considering that Oprah is a philanthropist) is just ridiculous. Usually, studios won’t even accept submissions from every day jo-blows unless they submit it through an agent or lawyer exactly for this reason. I mean honestly, if Oprah is going to do a goddamned reality tv show then what else WOULD it be about. I’m not defending Oprah, but this woman is an idiot. If she had protected herself with an attorney first she wouldn’t be going through this lengthy battle now.
