David Beckham attends a gathering with his fans in China on Monday.
The English football star will play a full exhibition game in Shanghai on Wednesday, after he missed much of his first season with the Los Angeles Galaxy due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Becks will have to celebrate his oldest son’s birthday by telephone from China.
Brooklyn, the oldest son of David and wifey Victoria Beckham, will turn nine tomorrow.
During a promotional event today, he told the packed crowd: “Unfortunately they will not be here (in China), but they send their love.”
Excited Chinese fans at the Galaxy’s practice venue today unfurled a “Happy Birthday Brooklyn” banner as Becks and his teammates left the field.
Talk about dedicated fans!

He is such a waste of money - has he even played one freaking game that lead into victory?
He shouldn’t smile and should grow his hair back!!! Otherwise he looks like every other hooligan in Britain!!!
Harley: Yes… he scored a goal that made national headlines a while back. Can’t remember if it was here or Spain though. Do I care? No. I’m embarassed to even admit I remember that.
xenophobic Country!
Can someone explain to me why so many Chinese and Japanese people do the peace sign in their pictures? It was something that was started up by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and then was popular in the 70s hippie culture and with the Spice Girls…none of which I really associate these Asian countries? It just always seems when I see Asian tourists posing for photos that they are doing this and I am just curious as to why.
Heh Stephi, I was wondering the same thing. Perhaps it’s the equivalent of us [Americans] saying “cheese” when taking pictures .
