HARRY NOT GOING TO IRAQ (SURPRISED?)

As a result of the increased risk to himself and those around him due to his royalty status, Prince Harry will not be sent to serve in Iraq.

Usa Today reports, the British military Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt announced his decision in a statement today.

“I have decided that the risk to Prince Harry is too great. There have been a number of specific threats, some reported, and some not reported, which relate directly to Prince Harry as an individual. These threats place not only him but also those around him a degree of risk that I now deem unacceptable.”

Prince Harry is currently serving as an army second lieutenant in the elite Blues and Royals regiment of the Household Cavalry. He would have led 12 men in four armored vehicles on reconnaissance missions.

Troop Commander Wales is disappointed by the reversal but will continue his military career.

“Prince Harry is very disappointed that he will not be able to go to Iraq with his troop on this deployment as he had hoped,” Clarence House, his father’s office, said in a statement. “He fully understands and accepts Gen. Dannatt’s difficult decision and remains committed to his army career. Prince Harry’s thoughts are with his troop and the rest of the battle group in Iraq.”

    I think he would have gone if given the opportunity, but they just can’t take the chance of putting those others in danger just so he could go. He needs to be a fighter pilot like his Uncle Andrew who served bravely in the Fauklands.

    I think he would have gone too- I have young brother and his friends around Harry’s age and they don’t know how to be scared- one of the boys are in the military and is waiting to go to IRaq cause that is where the “actions” are… So. but I agreed others around him would be put in danger.

    It kinda sucks that his position keeps him from things that he would really like to do but I think this really is a wise decision. He would definately be a target and no doubt he would not get the full experience of the army due to the fact that everyone would treat him differently. This is a lot safer for everyone involved.

    You’ve gotta be kidding me… I think this is a publicity stunt. They never actually intended for him to go to war. This would be the equivalent of Bush sending one of his drunk twins to Iraq —- he’d probably say he would do it just so he could seem like a team player but in reality, we all know that Jenna, Barbara, Chelsea and any other ‘higher up’ kid is not going anywhere near any hot spot in the world.

    I agree with Barks, he probably would go if he were allowed. I know he’s a danger to the other guys in his regiment, but when they train together like that for so long they really bond and might be willing to take the risk that his prescence would mean. Overall I think it’s for the best though, he really would just be a wallking bullseye- not worth it.

    This is a rich kid who think he could prove his masculinity by joining an unjust war. Is it any suprise he doesn’t get to go. Should th West be suprised that the WMD were never found and the war cost more lives than 911? Nobody cares when the leaders are demagogues and all the information has become spin.

    obviously the prince was never going to be sent as a pawn to be killed.it was all propaganda and at the end of the day if they really wanted to send him it would have and could have been done with out anyone, even the public knowing.

    so the prince is not expendable BUT other soldiers are. FUCK THAT. He could have went w/o people knowing.
