MEET YOUR NEW AMERICAN IDOL

We’re going out on the limb here and calling it — David Archuleta will win season seven of American Idol.

Tonight the 17-year-old boy wonder performed his own version of John Lennon’s Imagine – and he actually did it justice!!!!

The kid’s vocals are amazing and that tear in Paula Abdul’s eye is totally justified.

We, like, totally love him!

He’s really good but not different enough for me. Seems like he has been in training to be an Idol for years then.

I have finally completely given up on American Idol. If this kid is really the best that’s pretty much a guarantee that he won’t win. This show needs to be put to bed.

i appreciate his voice.. it’s nice, and he’s a good singer, but i think his version had a few too many frills and trills everywhere

He’s very good and has a nice way about him—but—a couple of the girls are better and I think that will become more evident as the show moves along. Very young teen girls will certainly help keep him in the top three or better though.

MikeC, I was actually thinking the opposite… To me, he doesn’t seem to have that ‘young man appeal’ that these little over-sexed girls like nowadays. He seems too goody-goody like Clay Aiken. O-well, time will tell.

    Why are there no women???

That was absolutely beautiful! I don’t see him as an American Idol pop singer though but something like a broadway performer or a Josh Grobin type person. His voice is amazing though and he is a little cutey.

This kid is amazing, definitely one of the best this season. Best of luck to him.

I agree Anon 9:26. That’s the problem with these damn kids who have no real understanding of the subtleties of the very music they are attempting to mimick. That song isn’t meant to be sung like a fucking love ballad (my god, not every slow song needs to be murdered by bludgeoning it with a million notes and octives and all that goddamn warbling all over the place). It’s the Beyonce syndrome (though it certainly didn’t start with her - she has perfected that annoying singing style).

I sure hope he doesn’t win. I don’t think his voice is all that amazing. It’s quite good, yes. But out of this world? No. I think by choosing a song that the majority of people like so much has a big part in why so many people are ranting and raving over him. I really don’t think he did the song much justice either. I’ve heard a few covers of Imagine and the only one that even comes close to the goodness of the original is by Nine Inch Nails (surprisingly).

Oops, I meant to say by A Perfect Circle, not NIN.

He’s too puppy dog for this song. That barfy affected style is very AI, though. He’ll go far.

from your description, i thought he was going to be awesome. he has a beautiful voice but he butchered the song. way too many unneeded notes… but i guess that showcases his voice.
seems to be all about the artist these days. what about the songs? a great song will stand on its own without needing fancy fillers to distract us.

Please, the only relevant contestant this year is Amanda Overmyer…

Holley, thanks for pointing out the “A Perfect Circle”. That’s a great cover.
About this guy, not such a great voice and as the rest contestants/winners he’ll come and pass.

I love love love Amanda Overmyer.

This kid. *sigh* He’s good. I loathe Lennon, and this song sounds kind of Disney.

A little of subject - Has anyone else noticed that Seacrest won’t “Thank” Simon as a judge at the end of the show? He acknowledges Randy, Paula, and the band, but deliberately skips over Simon. He’s done it every night of live AI since it started. Not that ANY of them needs their egos rubbed, but I find it really obnoxious for some reason.

bleeble-blabble: It’s all scripted. You’re supposed to notice.

you guys have to remember that he is ONLY 16. that means he can only get better, and i think he is pretty amazing anyways.
