Talk show diva Tyra Banks chatted with Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee about homosexuality and gay marriage in an interview scheduled to air on The Tyra Banks Show on Friday.
Here’s a highlight:
TYRA BANKS: “I know that you are a preacher; do you believe that homosexuality is immoral?”GOVERNOR HUCKABEE: “Well, I think a lot of things in our lives are missing the mark. The word sin means missing the mark. It doesn’t mean that a person has committed murder. I miss the mark if I don’t tell the whole truth. I miss the mark in a lot of ways. I think that we were created to have relationships with someone of the opposite gender, that how’s we reproduce, that’s how we live our lives. So I think sometimes if you say is it a sin or immoral and people think you’re making these terrible statements about somebody. I’ve had people who are gay that worked on my staff. It’s not like I’m some homophobe. If you ask me, Is it the normal pathway? I don’t think so. But, you know, I respect that people have different views about that.”
TYRA BANKS: “Do you want the gay vote?”
GOVERNOR HUCKABEE: “Sure, I want every vote. Seriously, I want to be president of everybody. And I can disagree with people over a choice they make in their life or a over a lifestyle and still be their president and still say I want to keep you free, I want to keep your country safe, I want to make your taxes lower not higher. I want to solve some issues like the problems we have in education and rebuild our health care system, and I think whether a person is straight or gay, they want a president who is solving issues, not just pointing out differences among people.”
TYRA BANKS: “What if they say, “I want to vote for you, Governor Huckabee, but I’m a gay man and I want to marry my man”? What do you say to that?”
GOVERNOR HUCKABEE: “To change the definitions of institutions like marriage is beyond saying if people want to live a life that’s different than others, that’s fine, but when you redefine basic institutions of marriage, government, whatever they may be, that’s when we really should have a pretty thorough public discussion about it.”
TYRA BANKS: “You’re open to a public discussion, at least?”
GOVERNOR HUCKABEE: “I think we’re having that. Whether or not we should change the rules and marriage and redefine it someway, I’m not comfortable with that.”
TYRA BANKS: “Comfortable or opposed?”
GOVERNOR HUCKABEE: “Opposed. I think it’s something that is not a good thing. I go back to the point the a marriage ought to be, the context in which two people not only have, they may not have children but have the capacity and ultimately to train replacements and create the kind of environment in which people are able to thrive.”
TYRA BANKS: “I’m asking you so many questions about this because I love the gays and the gays love me. And I know I cannot walk down the street here in New York City if I didn’t press that issue and truly ask you that.”
GOVERNOR HUCKABEE: “I think you should. I think people will respect my views on that; I respect theirs. The great thing about America is, we can have totally different viewpoints and we can do it without having animosity and hatred. This is one of the great countries where you can have sharp disagreements without killing each other over it. That’s where I think we need to celebrate what is great about America, and that is, we all don’t have to agree.”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why a Republican should never ever be voted into office ever again!

And THAT ladies and gents is how to properly shoot yourself in the foot. Woot, woot!

I love Tyra, but she sounds like an idiot. And so do YOU for banning future republican presidents. It is like being a liberal loud mouth is “in style” or “cool” regardless of if you know what you are talking about. It is so HOLLYWOOD, so uneducated, and so ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!

You try to be so much like Perez Hilton it’s sickening. Seriously….you hate others for trying to be like everyone else…..but there isn’t an original bone in your body.
Perez, although equally stupid, is at least more entertaining than you are.

So Huckabee says America is great because we can have two different viewpoints about tough subjects.
You say, he’s wrong, and screw the Republicans forever.
Who is the intolerant jackass here? I think I know the answer.
February 25th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
Intolerance does go both ways. That said, I’m registered as Republican, but I probably will not be voting for any Rep. candidates for a long time, if ever. Until there is a candidate who can shake off the party’s staid and rigid reputation, I’m going with the Dems…. The Republicans are so disappointingly uptight that I’m embarrassed to even be associated. Wish we had a strong third party in this country.

Ugh, big deal, I’m gay and I hate the gays… I’ll never understand why marriage is such a big deal…
Personally, I’d vote for Hillary, she seems really dedicated to every issue…

“i love the gays and the gays love me”?? wtf?!?!
February 25th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
You know what I think he spoke really well. That’s his opinion and while I don’t feel that way personally I respect that he stood by his feelings and wasn’t at all rude about it or tried to change the way he feels just for a vote. I think Tyra came across as more of a jackass than he did to be quite honest. Since when is she the spokesperson for the gays? I’m sure they can speak for themselves.

you say “republican” but i think you mean homophobe . please don’t be such a bigot. the last thing we need is a one-party system!
February 25th, 2008 at 10:17 pm
After the monkey (aka: Bush) and what he has done, I don’t think I could ever stomach voting Republican again. However, Huckabee spoke well. But then again, Bush also said he was a “compassionate conservative”. Bush ruined the Republican Party for a long time to come I’m afraid. What happened to that party??

I agree that Huckabee spoke very well. I differ from him on this issue, but I respect his right to have those beliefs and I appreciate that he made a point of respecting the beliefs of others. I never felt animosity towards Huckabee– I just figured he was raised with different ideals and (socially conservative) values, more so since he is a preacher. He even seems like a really nice guy. He never stood a chance of winning anyway, so there was never any point in panicking because of his presidential bid.

Gotta give the man respect for his honest which is lacking in all aour politicians today, which test poll everything before they answer simple question. As for Tyra how the hell did a woman this DUMB get her own show.
February 26th, 2008 at 7:35 am
you have a woman still riding on the coattails of her husband, and a man who doesnt even say the pledge of allegiance for the country he wants to be president of. The democrats are way worse than the republicans.
February 26th, 2008 at 7:51 am
He’s allowed to have his opinion. And he was kind and thorough in explaining it. You are the one that sounds like an intolerant closeminded jerk. Right on JBo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 26th, 2008 at 8:35 am
‘The Gays’ Is that a private club/group/gang based in New York? I’ve got a guy and i’m a guy but i’m not with ‘the gays’ and i don’t really like Tyra. I do however thought what Huckabee said to be interesting and more openminded than some liberals viewpoints.
February 26th, 2008 at 8:45 am
obama not only refused to respect our flag, he was grabbing his crotch throughout the pledge of allegiance, look up the pictures.
February 26th, 2008 at 8:47 am
At least Huckabee is an honest person, can’t say the same for the others.
February 26th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Any man that would grab his CROTCH during the pledge of allegiance and becomes president proves what this country has become so distracted by the media that no longer can see reality or think for themselves.
February 26th, 2008 at 9:58 am
What a dumb moronic point you are trying to make Arasto. You are completely being the close-minded biggot you claim to abhor. Even though I would never vote for Huckabee and disagree with him on mostly everything, he seems like a nice man and atleast articulated himself well.

[...] Huckabee, rockin’ bigot and Republican presidential candidate, appeared on known gay-monger Tyra Banks‘ talk show on Friday. You might think this would be an odd and unproductive [...]
