MORE REASON WHY THE OSCARS SUCKED

brad-renfro-dd.jpg

A big thumbs down to the Oscars for cutting Brad Renfro from the montage of people who died in the last year.

The actor overdosed on January 15, so he clearly was within the time frame for the clip. Heath Ledger was last to be shown.

An Academy rep tells Us Weekly Renfro’s omission was “an editing decision. … We can’t fit everyone in.”

It should come as no surprise that the Oscars tanked this year in the ratings. The show’s viewership dropped 21% from last year and was the lowest on record in at least 20 years.

I wasn’t a big fan of his, but that is wrong what they did.

I wasn’t a big fan of his, but that is a horrible thing they did. They included “the people that run Hollywood” Wink! Wink!….. But not an accomplished actor who was troubled.

Maybe he wasn’t big enough and he was overdosed on illegal substanc? I didn’t watch so I dont know. I flipped through and saw the performance on a song and I was like “”BORING!!!”"”

I noticed they left him off also. Very tasteless of the Academy Awards to do this.

Brad Renfro probably burned a lot of bridges in his brief career and his body of work wasn’t large enough to make his inclusion automatic. Still, the “editing decision” argument sounds weak. Most will think he was left out punitively, and he probably was. Kind of a gutless move.

He still should have been mentioned.
I was freaking out about Roy Scheider’s abscence, but then had it pointed out to me that he died Feb 10th……he’ll be mentioned next year.

A big part of it is that preference in the montage is given to members of the Academy. I don’t believe Renfro was one. He still should have been included, though.

Jon Stewart was not funny at all.

They should’ve & could’ve mentioned him even for a split second… he HAS added to film history, too. WRONG!!!! SO WRONG!!! Instead, they mentioned old fart, big wigs that run the show (Hollywood) People NONE OF US have ever heard of. The whole show was so boring!! And the Music… oh my god, so bad!!!!!! Stewart was sort of funny, I guess.

The guy was a worthless druggie, so what he wasn’t recognized, he was practically unknown. So please someone name a Brad Renfro movie that you possible own or even remember.

I stopped watching award shows a few years ago…right around the time I discovered that all the information could be found on line without all the commercials and boring stuff between them. They should have mentioned Brad Refro–like they didn’t have three seconds they could mention his name and flash his pic on a screen.

Renfro had some pretty high-profile films on his resume - Ghost World, Bully, Apt Pupil, Sleepers, The Client.

    ^^
The comment about Scheider isn’t mine. But to whoever it was. . . Roy Scheider died after the cut-off date for this year’s montage. He’ll be in next year’s.

fume: someone is habitually hijacking names on this blog. It’s been done to me too.
    .
I can’t believe they left him off the list!!! Whoever overlooked this glaring error should be fired. After his family is apologized to personally. What a sham.

The omission is really messed up. But the excuse is even worse: “It was an editing decision. We can’t fit everyone in.” Give me a fucking break.

It doesn’t matter how he died, he still should have been mentioned. It takes all of two seconds for them to flash his photo and name up on that screen. This part of the show always chokes me up!

One of the best movies I ever saw was The Client. Where Brad Renfro played a little boy who witnesses a mafia murder and hires a lawyer played by Susan Sarandon…I believe that movie was nominated that year, too. He was also in the movie Sleepers. Among others look him up on the imdb

PS what did Heath Ledger die of? An overdose of drugs

PS The Oscars sucked! The only thing I liked about them were the golden age montage where actors like Jack Lemmon, and other greats were shown recieving an oscar
