Our thoughts? Any surprises? Was Amy Ryan from Gone, Baby, Gone robbed? And why does America hate Atonement so much? Discuss.

i loved atonement and i felt that they were slightly shunted, perhaps because they did pride and prejudice last year and felt like slighting keira??? who knows, but although other films were better i did feel that atonement was neglected

Well, Marion Cotillard lucked out because she looks like she’s standing among three men.

I kind of think that the awards were predictable…especially the men. I was a little surprised that Tilda won. I really wanted Cate to take home the Oscar for I’m Not There. I just can’t warm to Tilda, I don’t know that much about her so I hate to judge but she just reminds me of a cold blooded lizard. Marion was very cute receiving her award and I’m glad she won.

Tilda Swinton has been acting for 20 years & constantly has done an amazing job. She shuns all publicity, lives in the Scottish Highlands away from London/Hollywood etc.. She’s Scottish Aristocracy, her Father is a Lord. She has such an ice cold, royal look … She’s so damn tall, think shes 6ft & considering she’s pushing 50 years old she looks amazing - compared to the usual botoxed, facelifted actresses.
Arasto, I don’t think America hates Atonement. The problem was it was released in the U.S so close to awards season - people don’t realise the amount of P.R that goes into each film - The studios spend months & months pushing for their films to be nominated & doing P.R etc… I think you’ll find Atonement won quite a few awards at the Golden Globes if you do some research. Besides, Best Actor - British / Best Supporting Actress - British / Best Actress - French / Best Supporting Actor - Spanish …. Hollywood loves the British / Continental Europeans … so I think the fact Atonement did poorly was perhaps because it was up against so many amazing films & Keira wasn’t nominated b/c the other actresses had better performances … Marion Coittilard was absolutely amazing in La Vie En Rose.

If you haven’t seen Michael Clayton, get off you ass and rent it…Tilda Swinton was a magnificent bitch…
Marion was a delightful surprise…Paul Dano should have been nominated for Blood…I could have done without the nominated songs…booorrrring….
Best movie overall was of course Ratatouille!!!!! Goooo Remy!

No surprise her, Hollywood is ramming the GLOBAL MOVEMENT down our throats.

Am I the only one who found Javier Bardem kinda sexy??? I’ve got to see some of these movies. Usually the Oscars are full of a bunch of movies that I have no interest in seeing. These look somewhat interesting, though.

Atonement is a lousy movie! I didn’t like it at all! And I’m not american

Hot bitch — no you aren’t the only one to find Javier Bardem sexy — mmmm, he’s a real man.
Brad Pitt standing next to him would look like a girl.

Tilda Swinton has done a lot of very good work over the years–I think she was the right choice for the award. She’s seems to be a bit of an odd duck–but in a cool sort of way.

Total agree hotbitch…Javier is smokin’ hot…I’d like to spend a month with him on a deserted island

Hummm is not Hollywood fault that american actors are now much more concerned in being celebrities and being on tabloid covers than work their craft. Look at Lindsay Lohan, she doesnt give a damn about act, she cares about being famous. Europeans actually care about thei work. I think this Tabloid madness is hurting American actors.

Atonement is an example of pure hype. Yes, it had beautiful scenes, but it was incredibly empty. I didn’t believe in the “love” story, and didn’t care about any of the characters except for wanting to headbutt the little girl.
Marion Cotillard was an upset, and I’m SO glad she won!
