In what was arguably the most touching moment of the day, actress Cate Blanchett took time out to honour her friend and fellow Aussie Heath Ledger at the 2008 Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday afternoon.
Accepting her award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in I’m Not There, which also starred Heath, a very pregnant Cate ended her thank-you speech by honouring Heath, calling him “one the most beautiful, independent spirits of all” before dedicating the award to him.
Always a woman of class. Today was no exception.

Sweet.
Pregnant women everywhere!
No surprise cate got another award she’s married to a playwrite/screen writer.
Horrible dress.
Err what the correlation - she only got the award because her husband is a scriptwriter? Right……
How nice of her to do this! It’s wonderful to see Heath’s peers honoring him through their work and awards. I think Cate is a little overrated and if you’ve seen her speak in interviews you would know she’s not exactly classy…she’s got a bit of a mouth on her. But I do think she’s a good actress and it takes a lot of guts for a woman to play an unattractive man like she did in I’m Not There. Not many people could pull it off like she did.
roles with so called oscar potential are for the most part awarded to the wives of girl friends of big shot producers/directors/screenwriters…example julianne moore,anette bening,streep,blanchett,kate winslet,watts,kidman,zeta jones…….
^Yeah, because it couldn’t POSSIBLY be for their talent, right? *roll eyes*
3:30 am Anonymous - Of all the women you mentioned in your post, Julianne Moore, Annette Bening, Kate Winslet and Naomi Watts have never won the coveted Oscar. Nicole Kidman did win, but had been dumped and divorced from ex-hubby Tom Cruise for a full year by the time she won her Oscar. So he had no influence on her win playing the tortured Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Meryl Streep’s husband Don Gummer has nothing to do with the film business (he’s a sculptor). So her 2 wins for Kramer vs. Kramer and Sophie’s Choice must have been about her talent as an actress. Catherine Zeta Jones is the only one you mentioned that won an Oscar (for Chicago) and is married to someone in the industry. But given that the film racked up numerous nominations that year, winning 6 Oscars including the coveted best film as well as Jones’ best supporting actress, I believe it had more to do with her talent as an actress than in being the wife of Michael Douglas.
Cate is probably the best actress along with Meryl Streep appearing in films at the moment. Her husband is not a power player in Hollywood. If that were the case, how come the whore Jolie and her babies daddy didn’t get any awards. Yes, the whore was nominated but her stupitt partner didn’t get any acknowledgment for his Jesse James flick at all. So, having power and being connected didn’t pay off for them. Thank God, atleast we know that the people with power in Hollywood care nothing for the two biggest media whores in films.
Cate is great and a class act she deserves everyone of the awards she wins. By the way go Ellen Page! Another unconnected person in Hollywood nominated for major awards.
politically active gay or both helps to win awards too ala streep, julia roberts, clooney, queen latifah and that includes numerous nominations .
ellen page is lesbian she will win because awards are about pushing political agendas.
more popular political activsts and frequent nominnees or winners are sarandon and husband,sean penn and wife,
in hollywood industry it helps to be gay,poliitcally,jewish or married to any of fore mentioned.
Many times movie role with award potential are given to people in this small circle, once in a while they will break out and give something to an unknown of different race because being progressive is in now
gere=political and gay
gylendall=gay
clooney= political gay
little miss sunshine, brokeback pushing agendas.
Anonymous, you’re just trolling and being nasty. Give it up. You obviously don’t even know what you’re talking about, and, just as bad, seem to have the misguided thought that anyone here cares.
just stating the obvious that hollywood has an agenda and many are buying it hook line and sinker. hollywood is no longer about entertainment it’s about political preaching.
That’s OK if you don’t mind being brainwashed instead of thinking for yourselves.
