Hayden Panettiere is all smiles on Monday as the Heroes hottie goes shopping at Whole Foods grocery in Los Angeles.

After a quick grocery trip, Hayden loaded her own car with recyclable grocery bags and shared a laugh with the parking lot security guard. The 19-year-old starlet wore white track pants and Uggs and carried a gold Kooba handbag.

A spokesperson for the Save the Whales Again! campaign, Hayden showed her support by wearing a gold Save the Whales pendant on her necklace. She just returned from DC after attending a rally to support the cause.

Meanwhile, fresh off her trip to Washington DC, Hayden says she’s trying to figure out which Presidential candidate is going to stay true to their promises.

She told E! News: “You know, I haven’t really picked who I’m going to support yet. I have spoken to Barack about the whales and the situation going on there, and I asked him his views on it, and he grew up in Hawaii. He’s got a very wonderful outlook on it. Hopefully later on, [I’m] having a phone call with the McCain party and also in the midst of contacting the Clinton party. I’ll hopefully be hearing from them on the whole situation and what they’re willing to do to stop it.”

Hayden Panettiere: political shaker and mover. Whowouldathunkit?

    GOOD.

Oh, right. Hayden just picked up the phone and chatted with “Barack” (with whom she is apparently on a first name basis). You know, I’d like to see some celebrity championing those “unsexy” causes, like domestic violence, homelessness, increasing access to higher education for low-income students. Nope, it’s Save the Whales. I guess causes that give Hayden an opportunity to cavort in a swimsuit are the name of the game. GAG. GAG. GAG. I hope no one returns her “calls”.

It’s great that she;s fighting for a cause but I think she needs to base her decision on more than what they are going to do about the whales.

  5. grannytranny Says:

Could be worse. Good for her for giving a shit about ANYTHING besides the next night out at Hyde.

  6. noname Says:

Well, yes - I guess if we were giving out the “Better than Nothing” awards Hayden would win. whatever.

Thank you Mielixe, UK. Good for her for being politically conscious. But there’s more at stake here than a fucking whale. We’re trying to save our country from destruction, despair and destitution. She needs to prioritize. I love whales too and think they should be protected, but but I’d also eat one if I thought it would better our lives (in other words, I’m less concerned what the candidates think about whales and more what they are going to do about healthcare, the war in Iraq and our trillion-dollar deficit and the fact that China has us by the balls because of our debt). She’s young so I think her self-indulgence and lack of perspective just comes with the territory of being a young adult. As she gets older, I’m sure her priorities will change and deepen. I prefer her over Lindsey Lohan any day.

    I agree supernova!

  9. Yoyo Says:

It’s not okay to kill whales but it’s okay to skin sheep/cows so you can wear some fugly boots?

Self-indulgence? Lack of perspective? She TRAVELLED TO JAPAN. There’s a WARRANT out for her ARREST over there! She obviously cares very deeply about this subject, and I’m sure she also cares about the myriad other issues that are plaguing/fucking up our country. That said, she’s EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD! What do you people WANT from her?! Half the young people I know don’t even VOTE, so it’s frustrating to hear a bunch of naysayers deriding her choices and political activism. And whaling really IS an egregious practice. It’s incredibly cruel and horrific for the environment, and the fact that politicians are being questions on their stance regarding whaling really makes me glad. I’m also glad to see a young person who cares about something other than herself — that’s rare in most people, and especially rare in beautiful, famous women. Good for Hayden. I’m glad she’s using her clout for something positive. You all can shut the fuck up now.

^Two words Ernestine - therapy NOW.

  12. Ernestine Says:

Supernova: Nah. I’m too busy volunteering and educating myself about political causes. Thanks for the advice, though!

I love her! I think its great the way she is involving herself in the whale protests and really going the extra mile that a lot of celebrities choose not to do. It’s great to see, especially coming from someone so young. Great role model! She looks very cute here as well.
