Limbaugh has been playing a song called ‘Barack the Magic Negro’, to the tune of ‘Puff the Magic Dragon.’
The right-wing nut defended himself by saying he is an entertainer and the song is a parody.
The well-reported OxyContin addict said liberals upset about the term should be aware that “magic negro” is a historical cultural term, a reference to benevolent African-Americans portrayed in old films.
Uh-huh. It’s great to see that not only is racism alive and well, but it’s being blasted through our airwaves.

Wow–you are uniformed. He lifted a line from another source and used it as parody/satire in relation to it. Get a grip. The man is not a nut. It is unsavory “sounding” but if you actually consider the context (ie–use your intellect) you might find it interesting. You obviously have never listened to him. I have to laugh. He is what is known as an idealogue. He has some pretty interesting and dead-on assessments and insights. As far as the addiction, hey, the man got addicted to something that many others have too and he dealt with it. Get over it. Interestingly enough Rush is someone who, though outed for his use, forthrightly dealt with the reality of his bad choice. I look at this site to momentarily escape the real world, which is where I spend my time, not for angry personal dull little rants. Please try to refrain from trying to sounding informed and stick with what you do best–mindlessly entertaining goop with no redeeming value.

You see, I was initially stunned by his insensitivity to a sensitive racial and political issue. But I see now. Its a JOKE… .Gosh, you conservatives sure are funny. I wish I had known how well you all take jokes when I registered to vote- if I knew what a riot you were all having (singing songs together, coming up with new liberal bashing jokes, enjoying your strong sense of American entitlement) maybe I would have joined your party instead. First let me say that Rush Limbaugh is an Asshole — no debate there.
Sure we have freedom of speech in that people can say whatever they want. HOWEVER, we live in a society where even the accusation of racism in any communication completely overshadows the actual message being conveyed. We are subject to self censure because being perceived as a bigot gets a more negative reaction these days than pretty much anything short of child molesting. I would also have to agree with those who have pointed out that it is not a level playing field in terms of who can get away with verbally attacking which groups.
These is a general argument I am making — as I said, Rush Limbaugh is an asshole and I don’t pretend he had anything important to say with his dumbass song.

Randi, sorry if it seemed like I was jumping down your throat in my last post lol, I didn’t mean it like that at all. I get what you’re saying now. I’m a black person who grew up in the mostly white suburbs of rural Texas, so I’ve pretty much got a sixth sense when it comes to detecting racism. If I were unjustly paranoid my head would have imploded by now lol. I have a few white friends who I can joke about race stuff with- none of them Limbaugh fans of course!- and they never cross the line. The best way to handle all this stuff is to just laugh if you think it’s funny and if it’s not ok, then tell them why.
Race based humor can be extremely funny and ingenious when it works, but people’s true intentions are always pretty clear, and Limbaugh and Imus are not worth defending in my opinion. I guess all of the other “edgy” entertainers should just use a bit of caution in the future.
