BOND MOVIE GETS A NAME

Bond 22 has a new title: Quantum of Solace.

Sure, it’s not quite as catchy as Goldfinger or Casino Royale, but it is the title of a short story by Ian Fleming.

The movie opens November 7.

Our thoughts on the title?

He looks like a working class man, like he would be working in a steel factory in Pittsburgh. That’s not what Bond is supposed to look like. He is supposed to be sophisticated and slightly regal.

That name SUCKS. It doesn’t flow off of the tongue well at all and it’s just about the least sexiest title they could’ve come up with.

It’s the title of an interesting Bond short story. It means the smallest amount of love or compassion between two people. I love that they’re going back to the books and he’s the best Bond since Connery.

Miss - that’s exactly what producers wanted to change. They were more interested in a younger Bond who could be believable in the fighting sequences and had a bit roughness around the edges. Pierce was too much of a sophisticate to be believable in the action sequences. There’s no way Pierce would have been able to do the first action sequence from Casino Royale. Producers wanted to get away from the tuxedo-wearing, martini-drinking Bond and get someone a little more gritty and real to appeal to a younger demo. And based on the half billion box office that Casino Royale netted, it worked.

^^^but why, Sean and Pierce where unattainable amazing dreamy men, that’s what i want to see, not some everyday guy.

Miss - I totally know what you’re saying, but producers were going for a manly, tough guy to bring realism for the action sequences. Mainly to court that almighty male demo. I read an article with Barbara Broccoli (Bond producer) and she said they made the switch because the time was right to introduce Bond to a younger audience. They’re trying to hook Bond into a new generation and felt the sophisticated, regal Bond of old wouldn’t be credible for younger audiences.
