A PRESCRIPTION FOR DEATH?

Neighbours and fans have erected a makeshift memorial outside the apartment building in which Heath Ledger was found dead on Tuesday afternoon. Among about a dozen bouquets of flowers, handwritten notes and flickering candles stood a hand-drawn portrait of the actor, a cigarette jutting from his lips, reminiscent of James Dean.

Meanwhile, new reports reveal that the $20 that police found in Heath’s apartment did not contain any drug residue. Furthermore, an insider tells TMZ that the actor’s apartment had no illegal drugs inside. No cocaine. No heroin. Nothing.

Instead it appears it was precription pills that may have played a role in his untimely death. Pill bottles containing the anti-anxiety medications Ativan, Valium, Xanax and the sleeping meds Lunesta and Restoril were found in the apartment.

Shockingly, all were prescribed to Heath.

I took 1/2 an Ativan once to help me get through a speech. I took it, had some breakfast, and then…zilch. I just remember little flashes of the rest of the day. So never again for me. My speech apparently kicked ass though, so at least there was that. Next time I’ll just have a swig of NyQuil.

Shockingly? I’m not shocked, and I doubt if others are, either. I’m just sad that, as a society, we’re always willing to either help others destroy themselves, or stand by and watch as they do. RIP, Heath.

I dont think this is shocking. Half the world is on anti aniexty meds and sleeping pills. Im not saying it right. But it maybe it was what he needed. He was obviously perscribed them for a reason. Everyone has problems celebs included. Its tragic and so sad.

I can’t believe anybody even prescribes valium anymore. I thought that drug was so 1970s. Poor kid. Whatever the cause, it’s a heartbreak.

People have different resistances, though. I never blacked out on Ativan, save on Christmas when I took two and drank pretty heavily.

i totally blacked out on ambien once. took it on a transatlantic redeye and when i came to i was in a train station, but without my mother, who had flown with me. (she also took the pill.) neither of us remembers getting off the plane, getting our luggage, or becoming separated. just think what that one pill does to your brain. scary.

What bullshit! There were TWO prescription bottles next to him- he wasn’t trying to overdose, people just don’t realise how they react with each other and even one glass of alcohol. All this talk about these multitude of prescriptions is just so damaging for his friends and family. these terrible ACCIDENTS happen much more easily than people think.

I was once perscribed Zoloft. At first 10mg, then 50, & continued to increase until I was taking 250mg/day. I told the doc that something was wrong. I became manic & had anxiety so bad that I couldn’t leave my home. I suffered from paranoia as well. My family wanted to have me commited. I thought they were all crazy. Before my eyes even opened in the morning my first thought was ‘ I can’t do this anymore”. I would plan my suicide everyday & cry through most of it. It almost destroyed my marriage & my life & I am still recovering from the affects of it. I lived that way for 5 years. My memories of then are mostly a blurr which is a big chuck of my children’s growing up. Fortunately I lost my job & my Medical which forced me off the zoloft & the 12 other meds (effexor & cyclobenzaprine) they gave me for treating fibromyalgia. But because I did it without a doc’s care, I crashed & attempted to end my life, but was interrupted by a friend. I am now living mostly normal & have no thoughts of suicide. Off all meds & plan to stay that way. If it were not for the strong love I felt for my children, I would not be here today. I believe Health was prescribed with a leathol combination of the wrong stuff. I too could not sleep with the anti-depressants, but the one that he was on specifically states “Not to take with sleep meds” His Doc was obviously a drug pusher with a degree. What a waste that his star will no longer shine.

Oh, god. Can we give this shit a rest until the medical examiner announces his results. This is so fucking ridiculous. The man dropped dead during an illness (pneumonia) and he happened to have six prescription drugs in his MEDICINE CABINET (show me one fucking American who doesn’t have that many if not more - especially elderly people). He probably accidentally o.d. or died as a complication of his illness related to him taking prescription medication. But the media needs to drop this shit now. YOU AREN’T GETTING ANSWERS UNTIL THE TOXICOLOGY REPORTS COME BACK.

Americans, I noticed, are generally too much into medication anyway.
Aspirine, for example, isn’t the first thing I think about when I have a little headache, and I don’t think it should be either to be honest. Lay down for a while and the pain will be gone.
Many things can be solved without (or with little use of) drugs, but it’d just take a little more patience and effort..
In fact, there’s always a downside to certain pills. They’re no fucking magic.

To many scripts mix em and bam out of it… intentional death most likely not.
He probably was trying to sleep, and if that stuff erases your memory and actions then he might have taken more thinking he hadn’t taken any.

If he’s filming in different countries and has a problem and sees a different doctor it is not impossible that he has all these prescriptions. If he was depressed and not sleeping and/or used to an assistant remembering details like medical history then it might explain a lot too. I’ve done some stupid shit when I wasn’t sleeping.

Sarah… you are so right but when you say Americans dont say all say some b/c my family(black) never believes in taking any type of medications unless it is extremely worthwhile. No one that i know of takes a lot of medications for sleeping disorders, it seems these Drs should be in trouble for giving out all of those pills When my body is tired it lets me know it is time to rest thankfully i dont have any pills to take for that! My symphathy goes out to his family and friends and God bless his family he seemed like a nice person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that’s why I put “generally” in my sentence Daisy!
I do think some people actually need some medication in order for them to sleep well or w/e, but honestly - someone as young as Heath Ledger really doesn’t need a cabinet filled with heavy prescription drugs like Xanax and Valium… I’m afraid such amounts of medication on a young man like himself don’t improve his condition in the slightest bit. All those different types of pills could aswell have had negative effects on his condition…
Bless his family and friends indeed, I hope they can cope with this terrible loss :(

It was an accident. I think that seems obvious now. If he had truly wanted to end his life he would have taken something a lot stronger than sleeping meds. He had said a number of times that he had difficulty sleeping and if he was feeling unwell and just needed a good night sleep he may have just taken a bad mix that caused heart failure. It happens. It’s just so sad that it happened to somebody as young and talented as Heath.
