GOODBYE, HEATH

Check out video taken of Heath Ledger’s body as it is removed from the Soho building where he was found dead earlier today.

Medical examiners can been seen carrying out in a black body bag and placing it in the back of a truck.

Ugh…celebrity journalism has just taken a very morbid turn.

Seriously. I agree with Anonymous. If you think this is morbid, then make a simple decision to not post it. My day would not end if I didn’t see Heath Ledger in a body bag.

I think you have crossed a line in media where you need to ask yourself is this constructive or destructive? It is clearly the latter. As someone who affects the public (yes, your blog is viewed by many) you need to be the authority of what your viewers see and don’t see. By posting something so morbid and DISRESPECTFUL, you are no longer blogging… It has now become a game for you to post something others have not. Have you ever thought why other sleazes like Perez (by the time I finish this perhaps he does…) have not posted this!?! Because it crosses the line. Blogging sometimes is about shock value, however in this situation, shock value no longer works. I am no super fan of Heath, however I am a concerned reader. Please have the RESPECT for his family, daughter, friends and ex-wife. I ask that you consider removing this video, as it really benefits NO ONE. Please do what you feel is right, however take into consideration what others are saying.

    33

Fucking disgusting. You’ve lost my respect, Arasto.

  34. karafarrah
    34

Well, then, everyone who thinks Arasto is a jackass SHOULD JUST GO THE FLOCK AWAY AND GET IT OVER WITH. So GO. You guys remind me of the commercial where the little boy is packing up his stuff and announcing that he’s running away, but he’s waiting for someone to stop him. I do agree that it’s so very sad that we’re all here reading about this very sad event and watching video, but if you can’t stomach it then GO AWAY. Don’t be hypocritical and keep returning and posting over and over again.

  35. karafarrah
    35

Also, Arasto, celebrity journalism hasn’t JUST taken this turn–I seem to remember exhaustive, disrespectful coverage of Anna Nicole Smith everywhere, as well–both during her suffering over her son’s death, as well as during her own bucket-kicking. This ain’t new, people. If it sickens you, then skip over that post and don’t watch the video.

  36. Kidge
    36

karafarrah - the people, like myself, who have posted to Arasto on this matter have nearly all highlighted the same dark irony: He’s decrying the supposedly new-found morbidity of journalism, yet he himself is posting the video and stills. It’s hypocritical in principle, as well as being disrespectful in the actual subject matter.

  37. Brianna
    37

    Take it down!

  38. karafarrah
    38

Again, Kidge–whatever you can’t live with, whether it’s the video or Arasto’s (tongue-in-cheek?) commentary on the material collected by the paps, don’t read it. Don’t come back. It’s a thin line that we draw with regard to our “standards” and I’m willing to bet that everyone has a different place for their own line regarding what they think is ‘acceptable’ celebrity gossip. If seeing pix & vid of Mr. Ledger’s body being taken away was tasteless and disrespectful, then what was it when we all tuned in to see pix & vid of Britney Spears being toted away in a straitjacket? Wasn’t THAT a time when SHE deserved some privacy and respect for her personal life? It shouldn’t matter whether a celebrity is a fine, upstanding person, or whether they’re a hella public, glittering train wreck–we should respect their privacy in all times of strife. But then, things would get pretty boring, wouldn’t they? Who has the sterling character to judge, to say that it’s okay for us to stare at Britney’s public breakdown because she’s not a good person, but it’s NOT okay for us to block traffic during Heath’s death, because he was a good person? THAT is hypocrisy.

  39. jmo
    39

Seriously. Why have you posted it then?

  40. snipe
    40

I’m not bothered in the least. It’s just a shot of a body bag on a stretcher which I’ve seen *many* times on the nightly news over the years. More disconcerting than a body bag shot is when there’s footage of a bad accident and you can see multiple police tarps covering what are apparently strewn remains. Now that’s gross.

Were people this upset when they filmed Anna Nicole’s remains being transported?

  41. Aysla
    41

I’m the same way, snipe. This is something I’ve seen a lot on the news, so I don’t think this is a big deal. The only thing I don’t like is the last line of the post… hellooo, Arasto, *you’re* celebrity journalism!

^^i feel the same way about the last line. this post does not bother me though.
the whole thing is very sad. i choose not to watch the clip… i just can’t.

  45. Shell
    45

I watched the clip and it really isn’t bad…. the picture you’ve all seen is worse. AND what is worse are all the photograghers crowded around the emergency area taking video for YOU AND I to watch on the celebrity news shows at night.

  46. Kidge
    46

karafarrah - what did I say about Britney? I’m not quite sure why you dragged her into this. I haven’t seen Arasto decry the obtrusiveness of the paparazzi in any of his posts about her, and that’s really all I’m commenting on - that he’s being hypocritical in posting the same video he apparently finds “morbid”. I’m one that believes celebrities have the right to a certain amount of privacy…things like death should be treated with a modicum of respect, but I can’t get behind some random actress lashing out because someone took a picture of her while she was shopping. There’s a line somewhere there, and this post crosses it, IMO. The Anna Nicole Smith coverage did too, and the ongoing Britney coverage is ridiculous.

  47. Shell
    47

I agree this is an extremely shocking and sad piece of news, but the picture or the video are nothing to be shocked at..just turn on CNN, Fox 5 News or other thousands of worldwide news channels: all you see is deaths, accidents, fires, wars, terrorists acts etc….it’s every journalist’s duty to report on every subjects. Even celebrity journalits: look at Marylin’s death, Lady Di’s death (remember how many times did we see that crumpled car?), Anna Nicole in her body bag….it is acceptable journalistic report. For those who are shocked: get a grip and look else where. Freedom of speech or press is not just an idea.
That said, I am very upset by Heath’s death. RIP

  48. KILLLILOPLZ
    48

(Sorry Shell, don’t know whyyour namepopped up instead of mine in my last coment…at least we agree)

  49. karafarrah
    49

Kidge, YOU didn’t say anything at all about Britney–I used her example as a contrasting situation to point out that we’re the ones who are eating what the paps and Arasto and vapid Perez and dlisted and TMZ and all the rest are cooking up. We’re the reason they’re doing what they’re doing, because we provide the market for it. And all I’m saying is that you may have a different idea of what is acceptable and what is not. Because we read part of it, we must accept that ALL of it is available out there, whether all of it is acceptable and in good taste, or not. It makes me wonder, if you’re so sensitive to the needs of celebrities, what you find attractive about a celebrity gossip site. Again, none of us, as readers, can judge which events are tasteful and which aren’t. And we shouldn’t browbeat Arasto if he does something that WE feel crosses our OWN personal line. Just because a bunch of readers say he’s an ass for posting something doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t post it. And I’m sorry that you feel that I’ve singled you out–I shouldn’t have used just your name in my initial post. I should have gone through and copied and pasted EVERYONE’S handle to put into my post, as a reminder that we can’t look at some things and avert our eyes from others while maintaining our integrity.

“The Joker’s character is based on his first two appearances in the comic books, as well as his portrayal in the graphic novel “The Killing Joke.” To prepare for the role, Heath Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month researching the character and developing his performance, which he claims is based upon Sid Vicious and the character of Alex in A Clockwork Orange (1971). Ledger found the role extremely difficult, and suffered insomnia as a result.”

~I do not know how true it the above statement, but when I first read this on IMDB awhile ago, while checking on “The Dark Knight”, I thought he might be too deeply involved in the character he is playing (method acting). This, I thought, had always cause a lot of depression or other personal problems for a lot of actors. (i.e. Angelina Jolie when she played “Gia” and “Girl, Interrupted”). My deepest condolence to his love ones and his fans. I first noticed him as an thespian when he acted in “Two Hand” (great performance). He is a great actor. ~

    51

Never posted here before..but I have to agree with the majority of people that this shouldn’t have been posted. Celebrities are actual people with actual families-a pretty huge no brainer; it is just tacky to post a picture of his body in a body bag being wheeled out of his house followed by a video. Yes, I understand that they are showing it on CNN, Fox, etc..it doesn’t mean it *should* be shown and it certainly doesn’t mean that since it *has* been shown that it should be okay for other news broadcasts/websites to show it. And while I do understand that other celebrities have been shown in body bags/autopsy photos/car crashes etc: it doesn’t mean it is okay to do so in those cases either. These people have families; they are sitll someone’s child, sibling, parent, etc..have at least some decency.
I love this website and visit it frequently but I think this was in bad taste. He was a great actor and should be remembered as such.

    52

I just think this is so morbid, it’s just, what do you say to that? Death is a bit of a taboo subject in our times, we don’t want to be confronted with images like that. It just shows our own mortality, a young man, with his whole life ahead of him just dies suddenly. It’s just a shock, here one day, gone forever the next.

I think that because this man is a celebrity you are forgetting that he is also a father, and a son, and a friend to many people. So now when his 2 year old daughter grows up and learns how to use the internet she’ll see pictures of her father in a body bag.
Somewhere in the world, his ex-girlfriend has the daunting task of trying to explain to a 2 year old why she can’t see her daddy anymore.
he was 28 years old. this is a tragedy.
it wouldn’t hurt to show a little compassion.

Arasto, out of respect for Heath and his family…please take these photos down. It’s not necessary I don’t think to have pictures of him in a body bag. So morbid, upsetting and disturbing and not the way that I think Heath would want to be remembered. There’s celebrity reporting and then there is taking it too far which I beleive this is. It’s like the dead photos of Anna Nicole that were supposedly floating around. Nobody should ever see people in those conditions.

Perhaps maybe Arasto (is that the name of the blogger here?) can edit the entry so people who only wanna see the pic can view it (like the “after the jump” link stuff), and that might settle things down a bit?

    80

Shell, I agree with you that this site is certainly part of the celebrity journalism machine.
    .
For those people saying that this entry shouldn’t have been posted b/c celebs deserve their privacy, I’m wondering what you think about footage like this that is routinely shown on the 6 o’clock news about non-famous people who’ve been victims of crimes/accidents. The images don’t upset me, but then maybe the crime rate in my city has inured me to it all. This isn’t a modern phenomenon — there’s news reel footage of Marilyn Monroe’s body being removed from her house and that was back in the ’60s. And I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen that clip of Kennedy getting shot in the head.
    .
Also disagree that this entry represents some new low in celebrity journalism. I believe that was achieved some time last week when X17 posted pictorial proof that Brit is on the rag.

  81. same idiot
    81

I bet there is one or two idiots, maybe in their teens, posting multiple annoying petitions calling for censure.
You’re free to stop reading and go back to whatever makes you so virtuous. No other reason for censuring than their own sensitivity.

  82. Ashley
    82

This is horrible to post. I am not a teenager but, a mother. Do you realize that he has a daughter that one day may come across the pictures of her father being wheeled out in a body bag? I have a new found respect for Perez Hilton. He was one of the only sites that did not post this picture or video. If he didn’t do it then what does that say about you? He normally stoops the lowest out of everyone yet he decided to be respectful in this sad, unfortunate event. How would you feel if you had a child and this was your significant other, in a body bag, broadcast all over the television and internet? We are talking about a little girls life here. A little girl that will probably never remember her father or how much he loved her. I am disgusted with your site and the other sites that decided that this picture and/or video was something that needed to be shared with the world. It’s also very different with it’s something that happens in local news with “non-celebrities”. What’s the chance of their children one day doing a google search and having the image or video of their parents in a body bag come up in the results?

  85. So?
    85

I agree T….those christian fanatics wont even show a man some respect in his coffin(geez it feels so weird to use the word coffin here coz its shocking that he died). Its disgusting that they are planning to take their high moral ground to such a new level of ‘low.

I imagine it’s about the same as the family members of Jeffrey Dahmer’s or Ted Bundy’s non-celebrity victims.
    .
Yeah, same idiot, I think you’re right that some of the knee-jerks posts are done by the same poster(s), but some of them (Ashley’s, just a comment’s,etc.) are thoughtful posts. I don’t agree with them, but I understand what they’re saying.

We all have a choice in this matter to look or not look I personally will not look because in my opinion it is disrespectful to the dead but I know that it will be shown millions of times on the internet and other media outlets.I prefer to remember Heath as he was in life, a sexy, talented actor and from what Ive read a wonderful father.I feel so sorry for his family and especially his baby girl God bless them and help them through this awful time and please let this be a accident, no matter what its awful but atleast an accident means he didnt take his own life. For everyone whos offended by this stuff do like I am just dont look and remember what comes around goes around people who exploit these types of things formoney or whatever may one day have their own self or a loved family member or friend exploited in this same way.RIP Heath we will miss your talent and oh so sexy smile, but I believe you are in a better place that we are, no sleepless nights, depression or worries.
