Heath Ledger has died.
The talented 28-year-old actor was reportedly found motionless by his housekeeper at his Soho pad earlier today. There were no signs of foul play.
He leaves behind a two-year-old daughter.
No words.
More details as they come.
UPDATE: The AP reports Heath’s death was the result of a possible drug overdose.
UPDATE: Law enforcement say prescription pills were strewn around Heath’s bed.
UPDATE: The New York Times says he was naked on the bed and is using the word “suicide” in the headline.
UPDATE: CNN says the pills appeared to be over-the-counter sleeping medication.
UPDATE: An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

My God, how sad! And he is/was the same age as I am…
It’s good that he got to do Brokeback, it’s a big role to be remembered for. And from what I’ve heard, he will be good in Batman… I’m starting to think about some blind item that was supposedly about Heath and, could it have been, drugs? Anyone remember?

Sorry for the double-post, but Edina - Jason Lee (I think) said he was at Heath Ledger’s place and Heath was ordering coke like it was pizza (or something to that effect). There was a blind item when he and Michelle Williams were still a couple - about a “golden couple” engaging in coke-fueled fights - that many thought was about them.

Thanks Kidge, I feel a little guilty asking for more gossip at this time, but it helps one to feel that maybe this didn’t just happen out of the blue. When River Phoenix died for instance (the one big celebrity death for me, and I was very young at the time) me and moany others believed that he was so innocent, and his overdose came as such a shock!

And for the record, folks, they were PRESCRIPTION drugs. It’s very possible that he had a bad reaction or accidentally overdosed. The man is dead, but he (and his memory) at least deserves the benefit of the doubt.

supernova, you are so naive. I am a substance abuse counselor, and the majority of my patients use prescription drugs. They are the main abused drug in the country. Just because you have a prescription doesn’t mean you don’t abuse them. Try educating yourself before speaking.

Jesus, this is pretty heartbreaking. I never would have expected this… and God, I wonder if his little girl even knows yet. I hope that the suicide stuff is not true… it is incredibly sad to think about what would lead someone to make that kind of decision– why they felt they had no other option. Rest in peace, Heath.

I remember reading long ago, some other actor was bashing on Heath Ledger saying how the guy was a major cokehead. Then there were reports that said how his drug use ended his relationships with Naomi Watts and Michelle. I refused to believe any of this. I loved the guy so much and he was so talented. Now I’m thinking Noooooooooooo! Not him!! He was so young. Why???? I hate it when people die so young and from drugs! By the way, it is all over the local news here in NYC that OVER-THE-COUNTER sleeping pills were the cause. He committed suicide, taking all, except for a few pills that were left on the bed where his body was found. He was scheduled for massage therapy today, and his housekeeper found him dead when she went to wake him for his appointment. He must have been secretly depressed for a while now. Poor Heath

I’m absolutely devastated. I have actually cried over this this morning and I have never cried over somebody I don’t know…I’m not that sort of person. I am so proud that Heath was an Australian like me and I think he was a true talent and a genuine bloke. I don’t feel that this was suicide at all just a terrible accident. He had pneumonia apparently and maybe he took the sleeping pills to get some sleep and just went too far. I am just in shock about this and my thoughts go out to his family in Perth, his darling little girl and Michelle who is no doubt a mess right now. Rest in Peace Heath x

Gosh I’m sure he was fantastic as Joker. We’ll see. I saw him in a couple of films (I boycotted Brokeback Mountain but it was an oscar nominated performance) But I remember years ago 10 Things and Knight’s Tale already proved he’s so talented.
He had pneumonia, do not believe he overdosed or something. A guy in the nearby company died of pneumonia last year, around his age. It can happen, even though it’s so tragical… Rest in Peace Heath.
PS - Give him an oscar postumously, Academy please… maybe for Joker’s role. Just give it, he’d deserve.

Commening the 1 minute only about Heath in the news..
In 2002 the former Alice In Chains singer, Layne Staley has passed. He was an addict, it was wellknown, he wrote dozens of songs about it and quit music business because of it. 8 years after his death he was still an icon to millions around the world (a still growing number), and I - who’s one of those millions - have learned it while searching for something good on TV, I saw his name on CNN in the line (what the hell it’s called in english) - and that was ALL that was dedicated to him. MTV - the channel who profited so much from the Seattle era - NEVER EVER commented his passing (yeah TLC Lisa passed the same week). That was disgusting.

It still doesn’t make sense. I know obviously I don’t know him but its just strange. I really don’t get it and I still don’t believe it. His poor child though. and I feel for his family and his REAL friends.
Its just really horrible, I had respect for him as an actor he was such a charmer and really intelligent. I don’t get this at all.
Why have people already started speculating on how he died? Can we leave that to the doctors please? And also, if it was really hard drugs he was into then why are the police saying they found prescription pills? Ugh. I can’t believe I’m talking about this. None of us have any right.

Wish there was a way to turn back the clock Heath…and stop this from happening… One of the most talented and promising actors… so many images left unseen, so many emotions left to portray. And on top of it all, you seemed to be a genuine, nice and real person..
Like I said: wish I could turn back the clock and stop this from being true… Heath, you were unquestionably, steadily on my top 5: the chart where I place actors who win my heart - talent is the most splendorous thing… All the movies you won’t make, the maturing you won’t undergo… I wish I could still watch you when we were both in our 60’s… Wish there was a way.
For some reason, ever since I heard the shocking news, Gustavo Santaolalla’s “The Wings” from Brokeback’s soundtrack is playing in my head and won’t stop… Probably because it’s so sad, and so beautiful, and reminds me of you…

I’m still in shock. I just can’t believe this happening. I pray for his family right now. I pray for them the strength to get through this. I pray for there to be so much love and support for baby Matilda as grows up. I am truly sadened at all of this. RIP Heath, this is a true loss to the entertainment industry and to us fans.
