According to The Sun, Becks will be pocketing a whopping $7 million in his first season alone at the Galaxy.
Davd’s paycheck looks all the more generous when one gets a look at what his teammates get paid. The wages of the whole team adds up less than $3.5 million - half of his salary! (The lowest paid chump, Lance Fritz, is pocketing a measly $13 000.)
Sure, it might sound like a truckload of cash but someone has to pay for wifey Victoria’s ritualisitic tanning sessions and manicure appointments.

I’m sure they won’t resent him, they’ll all actually benefit from him being there. More television exposure, bigger crowds, etc.
Soccer is going to take off here in the next 10 years. Not just because of David Beckham but he’ll certainly do his share getting young ones on board.

Well come to Houston, anonymous. The Dynamo is having a HUGE time here. Every game is sold out and they are looking for larger venues to play in. Maybe its our heavy immigrant population that helps it along? Anyway, I’ve said before the parks by my area are FILLED every weekend with tons of children (boys & girls) playing soccer all day in leagues. Those kids will be 18+ in a decade and thats when I think soccer will takeover America like it has the rest of the world. Old guys like me who enjoy a good baseball game even on the radio are on the way out.
Speaking personally, I love football - I watch the Premier League but have never considered going to a game in the US league … until now. Even a fading Becks is something to see. And it’s not like he pushed himself onto all those mags and shows. People in higher places realized the appeal of his pretty face and sought to cash in on it. He made a lot of money for the FA.
I NEVER have cared about soccer, but if I was in LA I’d be dying to go to a game to see David Beckham in action. He is worth every penny!

I don’t think he’s overrated. I think Becks is a great player. I watched Real Madrid’s match against Sevilla this past weekend, and he was in top form. And going along that vein, I think his pay for LA Galaxy is very reasonable… those figures are commonplace for top footballers (and the club’s hoping that Beckham will popularize it)… but I can’t believe that Fritz is only being paid 13k, is that number right?? For a whole season? Damn. In any case, I hope Beckham helps to make the sport more popular in the States… I’d definitely fly out for his games :D.
I’m from Houston too and the Dynamo are popular here, on game weekends everything down by the campus turns ORANGE! The players here said they make about 24k per season and most of them have local jobs that work around the season.
Woahhh that is crazy that he’s earning more than the whole team put together!!!! But then again he is considered one of the best soccer players in the world and definately the most recognisable. I’m sure that he will make a huge difference to the team and change the way soccer is in the US.
