With a fizzling career and a baby on the way, it’s understandble why Jamie Lynn Spears may be pinching her pennies, but Page Six reports that the 16-year-old’s thriftiness left one waitress at a Kentwood, LA eatery less than starry-eyed.
The pregnant “Zoey 101″ star irked waitresses at La Carreta, a Mexican restaurant 40 miles outside her hometown of Kentwood, La., when she failed to leave a tip after she and a friend ate there recently. “Jamie is not well-liked here,” says waitress Brittanie Heaney, who makes just $2.37 an hour.
In contrast, Jamie Lynn and her mother were paid a cool $1 million by OK! magazine for the exclusive story on her pregnancy.

She’s only 16 and likely not honed in that much etiquette.
$2.37 an hour? Geez, that sucks.
Krissa, I’m 16 and I leave tips.
This girl has had $$ her whole life so she probably can’t even comprehend that a waitress has to make tips to survive on their low wages.
JAMIE LYNN SPEARS IS LIKE HER SISTER POOR WHITE TRASH. ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD CAN NOT BY TASTE OR MANNERS. I FEEL SORRY FOR THE FATHER OF HER BABY WHO NOW HAS LINK WITH SPEARS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. HOPEFULLY SHE FAVORS THE BOOZE AND PILLS LIKE HER SISTER AND MISCARRIES.
Chantelle - I’m guessing you were likey raised by someone who taught you manners and etiquette. And good judgement.
Maybe the service she recieved didn’t warrant a tip. The word tips stands for the phrase To Insure Prompt (proper) service….and there have been many a waitress who didn’t get one because of crappy service. I have worked in the hospitality industry before so I also know that you get a paycheck and the tips are a side benefit–not a guarantee.
$2.37 an hour…that’s about what wait staff people make here in Georgia too. It’s crazy. Basically a waiter is working for their tips. If she felt the service was bad she should have said something to either the waitress or the management.
That’s a personal pet peeve of mine. I always, always tip. I find it very callous when people don’t tip or tip very poorly. Like Cali pointed out, most waiters work for their tips. The only time I consider it excusable, is if the service is extraordinarily bad or neglectful…
Jesus, I’m sick of tipping. I’m sick of seeing tipjars EVERYWHERE, I’m sick of people who provide a one time service (here’s looking at you baristas) and not a full dining experience expecting me to pay them money on top of the five dollars I already paid.
Fuck tipping.
Anonymous @ 8:41am:
I agree with you on tipping baristas - I also do not tip when I order pizza (or wings, bbq, etc.) at the counter, wait on it and I take it to my table or car (if not eating there). That tip jar gets nothing from me in instances like that.
^I hate that!! Why are you asking for a tip when I drove here and am carrying it out myself??? Isn’t this your job? Also, I hate the tip jars at Cold Stone because their stuff is super good but geez it is expensive.
Actually, waitress wages in the good old state of Georgia are $2.22 an hour. At least in Gwinnett. I should know, considering I am one. And Audrey, just so you know, that $2 they pay for “wages,” basically goes to cover taxes and we rarely see much of it at all. I had a check for $9 this past pay period, and that ain’t paying the rent. So yes, we do live off of our tips, and no, they are not a “side benefit”. As someone in the hospitality industry I’d expect a lot better from you, rather than hearing that you’ve snubbed a waitress more than once.
Exactly Jessyka!
$2.37 an hour?? Is that what minimum wage is in some states?
WOW that’s unbelievably low..I always get shocked to hear that there are people making that little.. Especially doing something that is physically hard and exhausting..
No, the actual Federal minimum wage is $5.85 per hour BUT it does not apply to restaurant wait staff. Crazy, isn’t it!?!
Jessyka, I knew it was in the $2 range, just wasn’t sure of the actual amount, thanks for the correction.
Anonymous 9:57, it’s not the minimum wage. The federal minimum wage provides for a “tip offset”, in which the minimum wage is set at $2.13, and the rest is made up in tips (receipt of tips is calculated in: wage+ tips must exceed the federal minimum wage). So contrary to what audrey said, tips are supposed to be guaranteed, unless the employer would prefer to forego the tip offset and pay full wages… which they wouldn’t, since it saves them money. You can read all about it here: http://www.opm.gov/oca/wage/nafnew/PDF/SUBCHAPTER_S11.pdf. It’s the second page, I think.
.
In any case, I agree about tips jars. Establishments with tip jars usually have the full federal minimum with in effect with no tip offset, so any tips going into those jars are like a little bonus.
^wage not with. ;o)
Moral of story: don’t be a stingy bastard… some people’s livelihoods depend on your tipping.
jamie is only 16 give her a brack i am only one your older thn her and i am happy that she is been responsible and not keeping it all hushed up coz she knows that her sister has been through a really big ruff pach and whts every thing to be okay and i is bad beeing paid $2.37 an hour but come on i amit that when i go on holidy i dont leave a tip so it dosen matter that much so get over it.

Tips should be earned not guaranteed. If you don’t like it get a job somewhere else.
Ugh, if you don’t like tipping, go eat at home, or better yet, McDonald’s.
I agree, Jessyka. That’s what take-out places are for… all you pay for is the food. You want to be waited on? Then pay that little extra for tips! People are so thrifty, god.
I agree with you UGH… tipping has to be earned not guaranteed, the boss should stop being so cheap and pay more…and for JESSYKA… thats why i dont eat out and i cook my food at home because i ttrust myself not these nasty booger picking, butt scratching folks who serve the food and cook it… some are just nasty like caught on tape in the restaurants where they showed people picking their noses, wipeing buns under their arms and spitting in peoples food.. that is a coward and a low down person to do that.. that stopped me from eating out… tip my ass.
thats why take-out is the way to go! some people just want to be waited on not me take out is my cup of tea.
Some of these waitresses are just down-right snobby and arrogant, those are the ones i will not tip you need to be courteous thats part of the job, no one owes you a tip it is for good service and if i dont get it oh well see ya wouldnt want to be ya!
Alright. I used to feel bad for her, but I also used to wait tables. Thus: fuck her.
When I go to a restaurant for dinner I expect to be waited on. When I have to get up and ask a waitress in another station for something and she tells me she will send my waitress over to my table…there is no fucking tip no matter how much you make an hour. If I have to practically stand up and use batons to flag my server over with the coffee pot, much like an air traffic controller exactly why should I tip that kind of service? Yeah it’s mean and I don’t do it often, but I’m not asking for much–service being the most important.
I tip unless the service was exceptionally poor. I don’t expect somebody making $2+ an hour to do fucking cartwheels.
Back to the 16 year old slut — she’ll be working there herself in 10 years.
I understand the people that say they get horrible service but what about the people that give great service.
I do have to agree when I go out to places I am always pissed at the service because I know I give good service when I am my job and I am always disappointed…when I go out..but I always leave a tip no matter how poor the service may have been.
I am a waitress and I only make $2.14 an hour and my paychecks always say zero because of taxes. Sometimes the wait staff has 5-7 tables ( at some places) and it can be very hard to keep up with all of the tables at once especially if you have a party of ignorant teenagers, or a certain race that thinks they can rack up their bill to $70 ordering the most expensive items and drinks and leave the waiter/waitress a couple dollars when you run your ass off for their rude foul mouths. ( and no I am not being rascist so don’t turn it into that, but most waiters know how stingy they can be) If you can’t afford a $70 bill, and you’ve had great service you should be able to afford at least a 15% tip ($10.50)
…..( Okay I know what you are saying..”well if you can’t handle that many tables you need to do something else…but whenyou have bad management not scheduling enough people..then it is not the waiters problem.)…….
Also, at my restaurant the wait staff has to make the soups, salads, some desserts and also run food and keep up with running sidework while at other places they have kitchen staff to do that. So the next time you complain, why don’t you try to wait on tables for a couple weeks. You could give some people the best service but they just don’t know how to do math or they think whatever the bill may be, they think $3 is okay for anything from $25-$60. The waiter or waitress depends on you so they can pay their bills. If you don’t want to dine out go to fast food, because if you can’t afford to tip then thats where you need to go.
Also if a place closes at 11:00 pm do not go in around 10:30-10:45…if takes the kitchen staff around two hours to clean up and that slows them down. So be courteous..
Also the closing waiters have to clean the front and back that can take up to an hour or so.
Tila, that’s the thing. People have no idea. None. They think they’re your only table and that your focus should be all on them. For people who bitch about perhaps having to flag down your waiter or what not– unless you see your server with their thumb up their ass, they probably have other tables that are running them around. Be courteous and understanding, don’t shaft them. I understand bad service and I’m not saying servers can slack off and expect to make a good tip. That being said, you should take into account that they have other stuff going on. After serving tables I realized that a tip is NOT as subjective as I used to think it was.
As I said I worked in the hospitality industry for over 10 years…and all Tila’s complaints taken into consideration, when I see my waitress standing in a corner flirting with some guy, while ignoring all her customers, and is allowed to do this because she is related to the management—sorry there is no tip. I’m not asking much for a waitress to earn her tip….coffee, a menu….you know service that is supposed to be provided by that establishment. It’s nice to get warm food, and some sign that your patronage is appreciated rather than just tolerated or is viewed as an inconvenience because it is cutting into someone’s social life.
Tila…. all that you are saying should be your bosses problem .. not the customers.
$2.37 an hour? What’s going on in America?! Minimum wage in Australia is more like $10 or 12 and I’m pretty sure thats only the rate for kids under 16. I’m shocked
