Ooooh noooo! That can’t be true. I loved them together. They were one of my favorites.
I just read that People mag article, and noticed that he said how “marriage ain’t easy,” in 1997. Surprised they lasted this long and have to say that anytime a celeb says that, you can bet your ass that they’re gonna divorce whoever their married to. And yes, I’m talking about Nicole Kidman, (who said that recently…only a matter of time she splits with Keith Urban), Halle Berry complained about the same thing, Resse Witherspoon, etc.
It was always a volatile relationship, so it doesn’t shock me- it just makes me sad.
P.S. Arasto, when did you turn into Perez with “this sort of breaks “OUR” heart”
I knew this was going to happen. I live in SF and have seen him out on numerous occassions with strippers/hookers and doing all kinds of things. I feel bad for her.

Caught him on Charley Rose the other day, jesus, he *really* needs to stop taking himself so seriously… I predict he ends up like Jack. Bloated, ugly and even if temporarily connected… always alone.
^I agree Pillbox (except about the part about Jack Nicholson — sorry, but I loves me some Jack and he is in an entirely different category in every single way — Jack is a self-professed whore who never believed in marriage - don’t even think he ever got married — and he’s far from being alone — jack lives and will die exactly the way he wants - albeit there ain’t much he can do about the aging process making him bloated). Sean Penn is talented, but his asshole-ways overshadow his talent by a mile.

Jack was married once, his oldest daughter the dress designer is from that marriage. Sean has to be a very very difficult person to live with. I hope this divorce does not turn messy as they have two teens.

I agree with PSL; their relationship has been volatile from day one but you could sense the love between them despite that. This is sad news but not entirely surprising.
I can’t even begin to understand how she tolerated him so long. His ego is frickin huge.

After reading these comments, I’m starting to think that Robin’s portrayal of Jennie in Forest Gump contained a lot of her own personal qualities. She must have low self-esteem to have taken this kind of abuse from a fat asshole like SP. And to think she gave up her (full-time) career for him. I’d way rather see her perform than him. She’s very talented, but unfortunately she’s now too old for mainstream Hollywood. Sad.
