Katie Holmes was among a handful of A-list attendees at the opening of the first Hermes Men’s Store on Madison Avenue in New York City today (February 9).

Rubbing elbows with the likes of Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and domestic diva Martha Stewart, the 31-year-old stylish actress kept warm in her long gray Hermes coat as she celebrated the French high fashion house’s new flagship store.

Katie has just returned to the Big Apple from Miami, where she joined husband Tom Cruise and his 15-year-old adopted son Connor for the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, despite the a global recession affecting other retailers, Hermes — one of the few and final creators of truly luxury goods — has performed better than its competition because its customer base includes the super-affluent. In other words, they’re essentially recession-proof.
