Glamour posted a preview of the holiday cover today featuring Mrs. Obama wearing a red party frock and a statement necklace. “It probably goes without saying that visiting the White House to photograph the First Lady rocks, but come on: visiting the White House to photograph the First Lady rocks,” gushed Glamour Editor Cindi Leivi.
Meanwhile, Michelle responds to the endless scrutiny she gets for her style, “I’ve tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else’s reflection.” As for how she maintains her sanity? “I have always tried to put my kids first, and then … put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves.”
The magazine is honoring Mrs. Obama with a Special Recognition award for her commitment to mentoring young women.
“The December issue will also launch a new column by CBS’s news anchor Katie Couric who will interview an “inspiring” woman each month. Mrs. Couric’s first contribution is an interview with Mrs. Obama that will run with Glamour’s photo spread that includes photos of the First Lady with her interns.
Mrs. O was photographed by Matthias Vriens-McGrath for one of five Glamour Women of the Year covers. The first lady styled herself for the photo shoot, according to Glamour.
