Looking good takes work and costs money — just ask John Mayer!

Looking adorable in his all-purpose salon smock, the lady-loving crooner was seen getting a haircut at the Sally Hershberger Salon at the Meatpacking District in Downtown Manhattan today (October 13) ahead of his 32nd birthday.

Famed for creating Meg Ryan’s signature haircut, the ‘Sally Shag’, Hershberger appears on the Bravo reality show Shear Genius and currently charges US$800 for a haircut.

Meanwhile, it appears British actor Rhys Ifans asked for Jennifer Aniston’s number when he met John at the Chateaux Marmont in L.A. recently.

“Rhys saw John playing piano and went over. He was very polite about asking for Jen’s number and joked that she should have a true poet in her life,” says a source. “John found him amusing – but would not divulge the digits.”

41-year-old Rhys is a bit of a lothario in his own right, having dated the likes of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Kimberly Stewart.
