President Barack Obama made his first public comments in the Rose Garden of the White House today (October 9) about receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
Saying he was “surprised and and deeply humbled,” Obama added: “To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of some of the transformative figures who have been honored by this prize.” He went on to say that it “reflects the kind of world that those men and women and all Americans want to build.”
In his brief remarks, Obama said that thoroughout history the Nobel Peace Prize “has not just been used to honor specific achievements,it has also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.”
“That’s why I will accept this award as a call to action and a call for all nations to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges can’t be met by any one leader or any one nation.”

Completey sickeing that is what this is.
ALL State OWNED media and even the Government ran media, states he didnt deserve this.
He doesnt.
He is making America nothing but a laughing stock of the world.
What the hell has he done to deserve this?
Not one damn thing, but SPEECHES and he is still on the campain trail.
This is the upmost I have ever been ashamed to be a REAL AMERICAN.
For once, I agree with the Taiban and the other countries that HATE him.
He doesnt deserve SQUAT
^^ LOL
Good Speech writing.
Utube the speeches where is teleprompter has failed him and someone else isn’t feeding him words… its pretty hilarious.
he is such a f*cking ashole…
What next president of the world for a one world government.
Well, he is right. He definitely does not “deserve to be in the company of some of the transformative figures who have been honored by this prize.”
its just….i…loss 4 words….
Well, I’m glad El Presidente clarified that the prize isn’t given for specific achievements because he hasn’t achieved anything prize worthy. What’s next? Coronation by the Queen?
You know, I hated him before it was trendy
I read these comments above and I just sit back and smile as the republican, conservative, biggoted, bible thumping folks jump off the cliff. I suggest you seek guidance from Rush….LOL…..what a wonderful change after 8 yrs. of Bush.
Megadittos, MikeC!
MikeC, reggie: The comments are from the same person for the most part. They just keep changing their name. I sometimes delete the excessive comments from the same IP, but it is hard to monitor. I am not into blocking people because censorship is bad — but enough is enough!!
This prize is so worth it just to see the conservatives and GOP faithful lose their collective minds. Oh, it is going to be a good weekend. And yes, Me (and his aliases) is certifiably insane.
LOL, Arasto finally confirms the obvious. I liked this asshole better when he went by ‘She Rides a Harley’ and pretended to be a woman with a son fighting in Iraq.
did he get the award for leaving iran and honduras in the dumps while overseeing the deadliest year in afghanistan?
or was it because his “home town” of chicago had more murders this year than we suffered in iraq and afghanistan the last two years?
arasto, lies.
adam, Why would I lie? I could copy and paste the IP if you’d like. Most of the comments are from a single IP. Don’t get me wrong — they don’t account for all. But in a recent post with 15 comments, 11 were from the same IP.
I am just one person, this is my only account, and I stand by what I have to say. Last I checked, this is still America (for now) and I am entitled to my opinion, whether all of you agree with it or not. Now, please, will someone tell me just why he deserves this honor and just what he has really accomplished? Please, correct my ignorance…. I’m openminded.
I am an educated, open-minded person. I am an agnostic. I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, I am not a bigot. I can’t stand Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck and hated the Bush administration as much as anyone.
But I am a fiscally conservative small business owner. I do feel that the world is a better place when people are encouraged to be self-reliant, that absolute power corrupts, and that a bloated government is a huge liability to our country. I believe in freedom.
I get so tired of being called an uneducated, rednecked, bible-thumping, narrow-minded bigot when I am none of those things. I am an American.
Thank you Arasto for this information. I am not surprised. Me and his aliases have impressed me as crazy. I pictured him/her walking down the street yelling and gesturing to someone who isn’t there. Surely an embarrassment to the republican side.
I too am an American who believes in freedom and also a small business owner. Solaera raises some good questions about the balance of government with personal responsibility. Her comments also illustrate how the extremes and name calling be it redneck bible-thumping or liberal nazis taking away from intelligent discussions.
On topic the Nobel Peace Prize for Obama was certainly a surprise. I think it demonstrates a return of respect for the American Presidency and the hope that, that man in that position can create a better peaceful world.
Thank you Arasto for telling us the truth. I for one, will be dialing down the harsh words in the future now that I know the score. Thanks !!!
Would anybody care to FOCUS on Obama’s comment?
People, he said he was SURPRISED. He said he didn’t feel worthy! Obviously, the man thinks it’s just as strange as the rest of us, and is kind of embarrassed by the choice.
But sweet baby jesus, give the man some credit, would you? He’s not standing there, beating his chest, saying, “BOOYAH, BITCHES–I FUCKIN’ RULE!!
He wants people to think of the award as a call to action for ALL NATIONS. To work together towards the common goal of peace. That it can’t be achieved by one person only.
So he doesn’t even accept the award for himself, he accepts it as a challenge to THE ENTIRE WORLD.
That does NOT sound like an egotistical, power-hungry politician.
Can some of you people even READ?!?!?!?!?!?!?
P.S. Thanks for the info, Arasto. But some censorship is actually okay. Because when the piercing babble of the crazed and ignorant prevent the many from (semi-) intelligent discourse, censorship must prevail.
The crazies on the street corners are only allowed to harrass passersby for so long. They are carted off for eventually for a much needed break–for themselves as well as all others who have endured their rantings for too long.
Besides, the crazies always find their way back to their favorite street corner.
So think of banning these morons as a good, old-fashioned time-out. We need a break, Arasto! And so do the crazies.
*the crazies on the street corner are always democrats.
