Offering photogs a quick wave hello, George Clooney was spotted strolling around the set of his new flick The American filming in Sulmona, Italy today (October 8).

The Anton Corbijn-directed motion picture revolves around an assassin who hides out in the Italian countryside.

And while gorgeous George’s equally gorgeous gal pal was nowhere to be seen, it appears the 48-year-old actor’s romance with Italian TV personality Elisabetta Canalis is heating up.

According to a pal, George is so smitten that he recently presented her with a ring. It’s not an engagement ring — but it is a sign they’re getting serious.

In addition to slipping the Cartier diamond on her finger, George also bought the European beauty a Hermés Kelly bag and countless pairs of designer shoes. “Every day is like Christmas at George’s house for Elisabetta,” his buddy tells In Touch Weekly, adding, “He’s even looking at a Maserati. He’s had a great life for a long time, but she seems to make him very happy.”
