In what may be the event of the year, Simon Cowell is set to celebrate his 50th this weekend at a party for 400 or so close friends.

Paula Abdul tweeted today (September 29) that she is en route to New York City before making her way to “Mr. Cowell’s 50th bday in London. I am very excited.”

So, what can we expect? The black tie party’s being thrown by Simon’s billionaire tycoon pal, TopShop boss Phillip Green. A-lists guests include Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Kevin Spacey and Kate Moss.

During a recent interview with the Daily Mirror, birthday boy Simon uncharacteristically played modest when asked about turning the big 5-0. “Can’t we just pretend it is not going to happen?” he said. “Seriously, I feel exactly the same now turning 50 as I did when I was 40 or 30. I am enjoying myself.”

As for gifts? No thank you, says Simon. “There are a couple of charities I am involved with that would appreciate a donation. But please, no presents from anyone.”
