Cops in a small town in Georgia have arrested one idiot and are investigating a cycle of racial attacks at the Tupac Center for the Arts, after vandals recently tied a noose around the neck of a Tupac Shakur statue located in the museum.
According to the police several attacks have occurred with the Tupac statue.
On one particular occasion, vandals drew crosses and wrote rants about Hurricane Katrina and various record labels on the Tupac artwork.
Stupid hillbillies.
In a statement issued by Afeni Shakur, the bereaved mother said: “We thank everyone for their prayers and support. Although our hearts are temporarily in pain, our spirits have already forgiven the perpetrators. Hate comes in all colours and genders therefore we will use this act of hate and ignorance to bring our community together and to pray for the healing of those who harbor such feelings. With God’s guidance, the work of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and Peace Garden will continue to positively impact and transform our community.â€

As a black man I know how divisive Tupac was alive -even in the black community- and it continues through today. If you actually read his lyrics, he was a talented individual but listening to it in a music form almost helps you take it out of context. I’m sorry the kid led a life that led him to an early death, I think he’d have been a great voice once for the younger generation if he’d had a chance to mature and become a true adult.

LISAMARIE - I take offense that you automatically assumed that the person likes metal. I enjoy all types of music, and Marilyn Manson has deep lyrics as well if you read into them. He is a very talented musician, and not everybody that listens to him is ignorant. Tupac was an amazing man, he wasn’t perfect, he was involved in crime and drugs, but nobody is perfect, everybody has a bad side to them and you can’t let that take over everything that he stood and stands for. And how come he should not get a statue, when there are people out there that have statues and do not deserve them. Im Canadian, and there are statues of cows in my town, does that mean the cow did something to be worthy of a statue? Its art.

Tupacs mom was a Black Panther back in the day, she taught her son to be political. Love him or hate him he got a message across and made his mother proud.

Is Tupac the best representative of the male black artist? What about Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr., Babyface, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Winton Marsalis, Stevie Wonder, and on and on. None of these wonderful artists sang about killing or hating. None of them left a legacy that promotes violence. Yes, he was a relevent artist, but I don’t believe he should be the one to get a statue.

I’m curious to how much of Tupac’s career you followed, Mike C. He only got into the “gang bang” themes when he moved to Death Row, before that he was more in “reporter” mode. He lived in the ghetto, watched people gang bang and deal drugs, got into it a little bit himself BUT he also go himself out of it. Shouldn’t that be respected? Are Ice-T and Ice Cube not mainstream now and they came from the same background? Ice T was a pimp for crissakes and now he’s on network TV AND talking at colleges around America about how education is the black man’s way out of poverty. Ice Cube has a production deal with an offshoot of Disney, making family friendly films. Anyone can change. Tupac was telling the truth when a lot of people were looking the other way. Reaganomics and the crack & AIDS epidemics that went largely ignored by white America (until it was their son’s addicted, infected or both) broke the spirit of the black community and it took people like Tupac, The Fugees, Wu Tang Clan to wake us up.
