Oprah Winfrey has flown to South Africa for crisis meetings over allegations of sexual misconduct at her exclusive $40 million girls’ school.
A matron at Oprah Winfrey’s posh school for girls near Vereeniging apparently “fondled” one of the pupils, and assaulted another.
Rapport newspaper has also revealed that the matron, who is alleged to have grabbed a girl by the throat and thrown her against a wall, is not the only one to have been charged with unacceptable behaviour by girls at Oprah’s school.
The charges against the matron were that she often swore and screamed at the children, assaulted the girls, that she choked one girl and threw her against a wall and that she indecently fondled at least one of the girls.
Security arrangements at the school had been stepped up in the past week, said a neighbour, who did not want to be identified.
Uh-oh….Oprah is going to undoubtedly kick some major ass. Go get ‘em, girl!

Who in their right mind would take a wonderulf opportunity and screw it up to this extent?
That is really sad! She is going to be heated as hell after all of the talking she has done about how her own sexual abuse has changed her. It seems that no matter where you are there are sexual predators anymore. As a parent it makes me a nervous wreck. She has done something really wonderful with her money and of course there is someone to take advantage of the situation.
I doubt its such a wonderful oppotunity for the employees, I doubt they are getting paid tremendous amounts, oprah seems more concerned with giving youth a chance, instead of people that have already lived a shitty life.
That school of Oprah’s is such a shitty idea…with the MILLIONS she spent on that ONE school where only a handful of girls are getting educated (and abused…as it turns out)…she could have build hundreds of schools and helped to educate thousands of children.
this is reminicent of the residential schools that North American governements (Canada/U.S.A.) set up for the North American Native people. They were taken from their homes, abused, sexually, physically,emotionally) this is very traumatic.
Oprah would have faried MUCH better had she had school in their children’s region and taught locally…
In Africa if something CAN be fucked up it WILL be. I can’t think of anything that has gone right there in forever…..sad.
There are no “North American Native” people. All peoples immigrated to North America. Some from the Bering Ice Bridge and some from Western Europe.

I think Oprah has many motives for the things she does if its personal pleasure or monetary gain. I think this opportunity that she gave these little girls is amazing. Offering one child the chance to be educated in a nation where so little opportunity exists is amazing.
My response to Meagan I think you are an idiot. The average yearly salary of a person living in South Africa is $2600.00 American dollars that is roughly $50 dollars week. Oprah is said to pay a starting salary for a teachers assistant $3,000 American dollars a year and that is for an entry level teachers aide. I think before you start spewing non sense and hate you should check out the facts.

Supersonic, I am speaking of whats happened to those African countries since they gained independence from thier former colonial status. Every single one of them has screwed it up. They fight among themselves and are so corrupt they can’t get anything done–don’t blame it on western countries. Because of the rebel situation, it is totally unsafe in the Nigeria oil areas. In Darfur the local government skimmed off millons in aid. etc etc etc….I can’t think of one single good thing that has happened in Africa since independence, not one. Oprah’s school problem is just one small incident amoung thousands. The whole continent is rapidly becoming one of the most dangerous places on earth. Those stupid fools were better off under colonial rule…they just were not ready to handle total control of their own destinies. Independence should have been phased in slowly; that might have helped. If the Western companies were not handling the oil and minerals absolutely nothing would get out of the ground…..
Gee…that’s awful. Hopefully that whole situation is sorted out and those girls can go back to learning in a safe, happy environment again. I can imagine Oprah will be furious about this, especially considering she was abused as a child and has done so much work to help young girls who have been sexually and physicall abused.
starr, when you have $40 million of your personal money to contribute, you can spend it they way YOU think would be best. in the meantime, please stop criticising the good oprah has done! maybe she thinks it would be best to build one good school rather than 10 substandard ones that achieve nothing. i don’t know why you’re so vocal about it. she’s not the government you know. she isn’t squandering your tax dollars ineffectively or anything. all of it is her decision.
